Chapter 446 Deliberately Choosing the Wrong Path

Hearing those words, Isabella felt a twisted sense of satisfaction deep down.

Isabella trailed Arya upstairs and saw the blood-stained sheets. Maggie was sprawled on the bed, looking pale and wrecked from the pain. Isabella's eyes widened, "Holy crap, what happened here?"

She'd never seen anything like this before.

Maggie was barely hanging on, trying not to black out. The pain was off the charts, like someone was stabbing her waist and belly with a knife. She couldn't handle it anymore.

"Mom, is the ambulance here yet?" Maggie's mind was getting fuzzy. No matter how she curled up, the pain just kept getting worse. She could feel the baby struggling inside her, suffering even more. She was terrified and helpless.

Seeing Maggie like this, Arya's heart shattered. Tears streamed down her face, but she had to keep it together. She needed to save her daughter.

"Maggie, the ambulance isn't here yet. Isabella's here. I'll carry you to the car, and Isabella will drive you to the hospital." Arya found a wheelchair and lifted Maggie into it, with Isabella's help.

Arya, who used to do heavy labor, had the strength for this. Plus, this was her daughter, and the urgency gave her an extra boost.

Maggie clutched her belly, her hands covered in blood. The wheelchair left a trail of blood wherever it went.

Isabella said, "I'll go get the car."

The house had an elevator, so Arya pushed Maggie downstairs. Isabella had already pulled the car into the yard.

Isabella opened the car door and said, "Maggie, I'll help you into the car. Don't be scared."

Isabella and Arya helped Maggie into the car. Arya thoughtfully brought a cushion to support Maggie's head, making her lie on her side as much as possible.

Maggie tightly gripped Arya's hand, her eyes filled with sorrow. She had a gut feeling that the baby was dying.

A tear slid down Maggie's cheek. She had a strong feeling this wasn't an accident. She thought of the text message from last night—someone had targeted her pregnancy and wanted to harm her baby.

But she couldn't figure out why she suddenly started bleeding.

She hadn't gone anywhere today and had stayed home peacefully.

Soon, Maggie thought about the food. If someone wanted to harm her, they'd do it through her meals. This meant that the lunch Ariel made was problematic.

Maggie was numb from the pain. She caressed her belly, her eyes filled with despair.

Isabella started the car. Seeing Maggie's worsening condition, Arya urged, "Isabella, step on it. Head to the nearest hospital."

"Got it." Isabella glanced at Maggie in the rearview mirror. Blood was still flowing from Maggie, staining the car seat red.

Maggie, losing too much blood, was as pale as a ghost and in great pain. Isabella looked at the navigation; there were two routes to the hospital, one of which was currently jammed.

Isabella was at the intersection where she had to choose between the two routes. She recalled Olivia's mocking words, saying she was inferior to Maggie in every way, how Maggie was lucky to marry into a wealthy family and get pregnant, while her own marriage was a mess, and she was in her thirties without a child.

Thinking of the handsome Fiorello and the gap between her and Maggie, Isabella's heart grew cold and selfish.

Isabella chose to turn right, heading into the congested route. Arya, preoccupied with worry for Maggie, didn't notice the choice. Maggie, in too much pain to be aware, also didn't realize what Isabella had done.

Isabella's choice was not just a route but a decision about the life and death of Maggie's baby.

The car soon reached the congested area, where traffic was completely stalled.

Arya, seeing the traffic jam, became even more anxious. "Why is there a traffic jam now? Oh my! This road is usually clear."

Isabella, feeling guilty, said apologetically, "I'm sorry, Aunt. I didn't know this road was congested. It looks like there's been an accident up ahead, and the cars can't move."
