Chapter 393 Foolish Behavior
Susan stepped forward and grabbed Adalia. "Now that you're living well, you don't even call me mom anymore. I raised you for nothing."
Adalia's arm hurt, but she refused to call Susan "mom." In her heart, Maggie was her only mom. Despite the pain, she stayed silent and stubborn.
Susan, furious, was about to hit Adalia when Alan shouted, "Susan, you can't hit her."
Alan finally had the courage to stand up.
"Alan, you're still protecting Adalia? Do you not care about our son?" Susan snapped. "This is our chance. Take Adalia now."
Thinking of his missing son, Alan hesitated. His son had been gone for so long, and his fate was unknown. Alan looked at Adalia, torn, and then squatted down. "Adalia, can you help us find Tommy?"
Adalia replied, "I don't know where Tommy is."
Alan pleaded, "If you come with us, we can find Tommy. He's so young. If he's with bad people, it's dangerous. You said you wanted him back. Will you help us?"
Adalia thought for a moment, her innocent eyes looking at Susan and Alan, and finally nodded because she trusted Alan. She also wanted to find Tommy.
Seeing Adalia nod, Susan quickly signaled to Alan, who then picked up Adalia and left.
Arya, busy arguing with Ashley, had no idea Adalia had left with Alan and Susan. By the time she realized, they were long gone. Arya looked around and panicked. "Adalia, where did you go? You can't go missing again."
Arya blamed herself. She shouldn't have argued with Ashley. She couldn't even keep an eye on a child. In such a short time, Adalia had disappeared again. Arya searched the neighborhood but couldn't find her. She quickly called Maggie.
Susan and Alan brought Adalia to an abandoned building. Emily was tied up, her mouth covered with tape, curled up in a corner.
Adalia was shocked. "Emily, Emily!" She ran towards her.
Seeing Adalia, Emily perked up, hoping Adalia would save her. Adalia realized Alan and Susan had taken her sister. Terrified, she turned to Alan. "Did you take Emily? Why? Let her go."
Alan felt ashamed and couldn't look Adalia in the eye. Susan said viciously, "None of you are leaving today." She shouted at Alan, "Why aren't you getting ready?"
After Tommy went missing, they had sought help from a master. Now that Adalia had changed her last name, she was no longer a Holmes. According to the master, when she left the Holmes family, she had taken Tommy's luck with her. To get Tommy back, they needed to exchange Adalia's life for his. It had to be done at noon.
Alan was deeply conflicted. He couldn't bear to do it. Susan pulled him aside. "Do you really not want our son? If you can't do it, I will. You go stand guard outside."
Alan couldn't do it, but he couldn't let go of his son either. The best solution was to let Susan handle it. Taking one last look at Adalia, Alan steeled himself and turned to leave.
"Alan," Adalia called out, "you promised to take me to KFC."
This struck a chord with Alan. He bit his lip, his expression conflicted and pained. He didn't have the courage to look back at Adalia. He closed his eyes and left.
Alan liked Adalia, but compared to his own son, that affection didn't measure up. Seeing Alan leave, Adalia cried out in fear. "Alan, Alan."
"Shut up. No one will come even if you scream," Susan said fiercely. "Your life belongs to my son. Now, give it back."
