Chapter 490 Francis Steps In
Maggie hung around outside the office door for a bit. Just as she was about to step in, she caught Isabella on the phone with Olivia, saying, "He still doesn't have feelings for me, no progress at all. I've even tried to win over his mom, but it's useless. Mom, stop nagging. I'm more anxious than you are. Now that he's divorced, a lot of people are definitely interested."
Whoa, that was a lot to take in.
Maggie was pretty shocked. 'Isabella has a crush? And he's divorced? What a coincidence. Fiorello and I just finalized our divorce. Could Isabella really be into Fiorello?'
Right then, an employee came looking for Isabella, making her jump. Isabella glanced over and saw Maggie. She immediately looked guilty, a flash of panic crossing her face as she hung up.
Isabella nervously asked, "Maggie, when did you get here?"
As she spoke, Isabella told the employee to get back to work.
"I just got here. I saw you were on the phone, so I didn't want to interrupt." Maggie walked in and asked, "I just heard you mention on the phone that you finalized your divorce. Why didn't you tell me?"
"I got divorced," Isabella knew she couldn't hide it, so she pretended to be calm and said, "There was no point in dragging it out, so I ended it."
Maggie teased, "Did you rush to get divorced because you have someone you like?"
Hearing this, Isabella realized Maggie had been there for a while and had heard quite a bit.
Isabella smiled and said, "Don't make fun of me. I just had a fight with my mom about this. She's eager for me to find a man and get married, but with my situation, it's not that easy."
Maggie laughed and said, "So you do have someone you like? A divorced man? You've been keeping it well-hidden; I hadn't heard a thing."
Isabella made a complicated, hesitant expression and said, "I do like someone. I was embarrassed to say anything before because I was afraid you'd laugh at me. He's divorced, but his family has high standards and doesn't think much of me. It's not settled yet, so I didn't want to talk about it and become a joke."
Maggie probed, "Who is this person? You're so capable and beautiful, and he doesn't think much of you? I must meet him someday."
Worried that her thoughts would be exposed, Isabella made up a person on the spot. "A businessman from Montgomery, not from Cyberland. He's not here right now. Next time he comes to Cyberland, I'll introduce you. Since he's divorced, he's being extra cautious about a second marriage."
Hearing this, Maggie secretly relaxed. It seemed she had overthought things.
Isabella changed the subject. "Maggie, what brings you here today?"
Maggie said, "I came to check in and see how your café is doing."
Maggie naturally wouldn't say that she suspected Isabella liked Fiorello and had come to test her.
"It's doing okay, manageable." Isabella smiled and said, "Since you're here, let's have lunch together later. I need to handle some things first. You can sit for a while."
"Go ahead, I'll sit downstairs." Maggie didn't want to disturb Isabella and went downstairs.
Isabella's smile faded as soon as Maggie left, and she relaxed.
Maggie found a seat by the window downstairs, ordered a cup of coffee, and flipped through a fashion jewelry magazine to pass the time.
She had recently submitted her resignation to AL Jewelry and planned to return to her old trade, starting from scratch.
Maggie saw in the magazine that Angela had won an award in a jewelry design competition. With Angela at AL Jewelry, there would be no problems.
As she was flipping through the magazine, a shadow fell over her. A man stood in front of her.
Maggie looked up to see a stranger. She scrutinized him, noting his sharp features and upright demeanor.
The man spoke, "May I sit here?"
Maggie apologized, "Sorry, this seat's taken."
The man sat down anyway and looked at Maggie. "It seems you really don't remember me. Let me reintroduce myself: Francis Hudson, a cop."
Hearing he was a police officer, Maggie instinctively thought he was there about Kimberly's case, that the Flores had changed their minds and were suing her again.
Maggie nervously asked, "Did the Flores family send you?"
She was certain she didn't know the man in front of her.
Francis crossed his hands on the table and said seriously, "You don't remember? Eight years ago, a murderer escaped into Cloud Veil Mountain. I led a team to search the mountain and got injured. You treated my wound."
Hearing this, Maggie remembered. "You're that unlucky young cop from back then?"
