Chapter 542 He Knows Her Pain

The most effective way to keep a man was to make sure he has nowhere else to go.

Now, Ashley was still legally Mark's wife. With Mark having had a stroke, Ashley and the two kids have the right to take over everything from the Jackson family.

Maggie suddenly remembered James's paralysis. After James became paralyzed, Isabella naturally got rid of his entanglement and was able to take over all the assets.

Upon hearing the news of Mark's stroke, Maggie couldn't help but think that there might be something suspicious about James's paralysis as well.

But none of that matters now. James had threw acid on Isabella, which constituted intentional injury. Being paralyzed, his life is essentially over.

On the phone, Maggie said, "Mom, don't worry. I'll come to London tomorrow. Don't act rashly."

"Okay, I know," Arya said, "I'm back at the hotel now. Come early; I can't handle this alone."

"Alright."

After hanging up, Maggie sent a message to Fiorello. She couldn't take Adalia with her to London, so she had to leave Adalia with Fiorello.

The Flores Manor.

Joseph was sitting alone on the living room sofa. Eleanor had left, and his sons hadn't returned, making him feel like a lonely man.

Hearing footsteps approaching, Joseph looked up and was shocked to see Fiorello coming back at this time.

Joseph quickly stood up, "Fiorello, you're back. Have you eaten? I'll have the maid prepare something."

"I've eaten," Fiorello said, feeling a pang of sympathy seeing Joseph like this. "Dad, have you eaten?"

"I have."

Fiorello's concern made Joseph feel flattered.

Fiorello sat down and got straight to the point. "Dad, when I married Maggie, it was a hasty decision. I didn't give her a proper wedding, and I didn't inform you. Now I plan to hold a wedding with Maggie and remarry her. I wanted to ask for your opinion."

Fiorello originally intended to just inform him, but seeing Joseph's weathered face, he softened his tone.

Joseph had anticipated Fiorello bringing this up. He sighed and said, "I was busy with Gregory's wedding, but he didn't appreciate it. I never expected Jenny to be the one who killed your grandmother. I'm old, my eyesight is failing, and I can't judge people accurately anymore. Today, I saw Maggie wearing a bracelet that your mother gave her. It's a family heirloom, passed down to daughters-in-law. Your mother has accepted Maggie."

Fiorello said, "Dad, if you have no objections, I'll start making arrangements."

Joseph looked at Fiorello with a serious expression and said, "Fiorello, you need to think this through. Maggie had a miscarriage and her health suffered greatly. The doctor said she can't have children anymore. If you marry her now, your childless marriage might lead to problems over time."

"If my feelings for Maggie need a child to sustain them, then it's my fault, my failure."

Fiorello paused and spoke gently, "Dad, meeting Maggie was my fate. Going through so much with her made me cherish our time together even more. Our marriage was both accidental and inevitable. At that moment, I agreed to get a marriage certificate with her. After marriage, her kindness, resilience, optimism about life, and unconditional trust in me made me certain that she is the one I want to spend my life with."

It was the first time Fiorello clearly analyzed his feelings for Maggie.

Joseph listened quietly, deeply moved.

Fiorello continued, "When Maggie had the car accident, I was terrified she would die. That accident wasn't an accident. Just this afternoon, someone close to Kevin confessed that Jenny had arranged it, and Kevin found a scapegoat. I promised Maggie happiness, but because of me, she has been hurt repeatedly, even nearly losing her life. The issue with the child is a deep pain in Maggie's heart."

Fiorello's eyes welled up, thinking about Maggie's sacrifices, and he felt heartbroken.

"Dad, Maggie's health is not suitable for childbirth, but she still chose to keep the baby. She was gambling with her life. That child might have been our only child in this lifetime. Now that the child is gone, no one can truly understand how much pain she feels inside."

It was the first time in his life that Joseph heard Fiorello speak so much at once.

Fiorello's tone was calm as he described the harm Maggie had suffered. Joseph also knew that Maggie had endured a lot.

Joseph rubbed his knees, hesitated, and said, "You decide. If I had your sense of responsibility back then, I wouldn't have hurt two women and made Gregory hate me."
