Chapter 288 Encounter with a Bar Scam

Farrell refused.
He had just received two months' worth of compensation, and now it was all gone after getting his hair done.

Farrell insisted on calling the police, but the hair salon refused to let him leave.

The shop manager came out, producing a detailed bill itemizing every charge, all of which Farrell had agreed to for using these imported hair products..

The manager said, "You can call the police if you want, but you still have to pay. Otherwise, you won't be leaving this shop. Our prices are clearly marked, and no one forced you. You agreed to it yourself. Now that it's done, do you regret it? We also need financial management."

Several barbershop employees gathered around. Did Farrell think he could cause trouble? That was simply impossible, and he couldn't fight them either.

Seeing that his date was approaching, Farrell had no choice but to swallow his anger and reluctantly handed over fourteen hundred dollars.

As he walked out of the barbershop, he received a call from the dating website's representative. "Mr. Florez, are you here? We're all at the Scarlet Leaf Pub."

"Almost there."

Thinking about meeting Maggie soon, Farrell ignored the haircut scam and immediately took a cab to the Scarlet Leaf Pub.

At the Scarlet Leaf Pub.

The dating website's representative was a skinny, shifty-eyed man who looked like he had a lot of schemes up his sleeve.

Farrell arrived at the pub and glanced around from the entrance. The representative saw him and waved. "Mr. Florez, over here."

Farrell followed the voice over, only to find an unfamiliar woman sitting at the table, older than him, heavily made-up with a strong perfume scent.

"Where's Maggie?" Farrell asked directly.

The representative, smiling, said, "Mr. Florez, don't worry. I'm Owen Fisher, in charge of your date. You can call me Owen. This is Amelie. She runs a bookstore herself, very capable. Please get acquainted. Miss Miller will be here shortly."

Farrell had no interest in Amelie and sat down to wait for Maggie.

Owen gave Amelie a look and then asked Farrell, "Mr. Florez, would you like something to drink?"

Farrell, not in the mood, said, "Whatever."

Amelie said, "They have a new drink here that's pretty good. You should try it."

Owen chimed in, "Let's get that one then. Amelie, could you order for us? We're not familiar with the menu."

"No problem." Amelie waved over a waiter to order the drinks.

Owen took the opportunity to show Farrell some profiles of other girls from the dating website, trying to distract him.

"Mr. Florez, what do you think of this girl? She's still in college, twenty years old, and very pretty."

"And this one, a graduate student, intelligent, good for your future children. Since Miss Miller hasn't arrived, we can take a look at others. Dating is about exploring and choosing."

Farrell was so focused on the profiles that he didn't notice Amelie ordering a high-end wine that cost over ten thousand dollars a bottle.

Amelie ordered two bottles of wine and some other items.

When the drinks arrived, the three of them started drinking. Owen was very good at socializing. Indeed, he tended to exaggerate.

After about half an hour, Farrell couldn't wait any longer and asked, "When is Miss Miller coming?"

Just then, Owen's phone rang. "Look, there's the call."

Owen picked up the phone, but it wasn't Maggie on the other end; it was someone else, just saved under Maggie's name.

After the call, Owen pretended to be regretful and said, "Sorry, Mr. Florez, Miss Miller can't make it. No worries, we'll reschedule. Since we're here, let's enjoy the drinks."

Upon hearing Maggie wouldn't come, Farrell lost interest in drinking. He stood up and said, "Well then, I'll head back."

"If Mr. Florez is leaving, then we should all go. I need to get back to the office too." Owen signaled to Amelie, who called the waiter to settle the bill.

The waiter came over and walked straight to Farrell, saying, "Hello, sir. Please settle the bill over here. The total is twenty-three thousand eight hundred dollars."
