Chapter 179 Partiality
William's words made Holden even sadder.
He was here in the cold wind while Fiorello was embracing his wife at the mountaintop.
Holden sighed again and again. "If I had known, I would have found a beauty to accompany me. With such extravagance, I would definitely make the beauty ecstatic."
"Holden, you have had countless ex-girlfriends." William joked, "Do you still need to woo a beauty?"
"They are all attracted by my money; it's boring." Holden smirked. "What if I also pretend to be poor like Fiorello? William, what do you think?"
"You can give it a try." William shifted the topic. "But you may not be as lucky as Flores."
"True, Fiorello can find a wife even at a café," Holden said, looking up at the fireworks and then at the mountaintop.
The distance was too far; he couldn't see Fiorello and Maggie clearly, but he knew they must be standing at the observation deck.
"After meeting Maggie, Fiorello has improved his emotional intelligence and even knows how to be romantic."
Holden took out his phone and video-called Eleanor. "Mom, look at the fireworks. Aren't they beautiful?"
Seeing the fireworks, Eleanor scolded Holden, "You always indulge in these flashy things. You're all grown up but still not serious; you only know how to use these to impress young girls."
Holden said, "Mom, these are prepared by Fiorello for Maggie."
Upon hearing that, Eleanor couldn't stop smiling and praising, "Fiorello has grown up and knows how to be romantic. Where are they? Let me have a look."
Holden was speechless.
"They are at the mountaintop. It's too dark, and you can't see them either. Mom, you are too biased."
"Your older brother has finally become romantic; of course, I have to praise him. By the way, the car you liked last time, I will buy it for you."
Holden immediately smiled, kissed the screen, and said, "Mom, you are so nice to me; I love you the most."
Eleanor chuckled. "You are truly unable to resist a hint of temptation."
On the mountaintop, there was no one at the observation deck, but the car parked nearby kept swaying, and Maggie's voice could be heard occasionally.
The car's movement was quite loud. Luckily, no one was around; otherwise, Maggie would have been so embarrassed.
She didn't expect Fiorello to be so wild; he couldn't wait even for a moment.
The two went down the mountain, and it was late at night.
Maggie fell asleep in the back seat; she didn't know when she went back, and when she woke up the next day, she was already at home.
Thinking of Fiorello's wildness last night, she couldn't help but blush.
Fiorello had already gone to the company, so Maggie checked the time and got ready to go as well.
Before heading to the company, she bought some food and went to find Adalia.
She was worried that Adalia might be hungry.
Susan wouldn't change, and the community and the police intervened, but it was of no use.
Susan was breastfeeding; her son was so young that the police couldn't just take her away for hitting Adalia.
If Susan were arrested, there would be no one to take care of Adalia and her son; they could only give Susan verbal warnings.
Maggie stood at the door of Room 802, knocked on it, and waited for someone to come and open it.
The one who opened the door was Adalia.
Adalia was barefoot and wearing old clothes. Susan had sold the clothes that Fiorello had bought for her.
The luster that once inhabited Adalia's eyes had vanished; the smile she used to carry had been replaced with a vacant one.
The chatting and laughter came from inside the house; Susan had invited friends to play cards at home, her son Tommy was playing with toys on the living room carpet, and Adalia had just been looking after Tommy.
Seeing Adalia, Maggie felt very uncomfortable. "Adalia, has your mom been hitting you recently?"
Adalia shook her head; she dared not tell the truth anymore, as it would only lead to Susan's more vicious beatings.
