Chapter 233 New Beginnings
The child's name.
Maggie hadn't really thought about it.
Adalia used to go by Alan's last name.
Maggie held Adalia's small hand, thought for a moment, and said, "Why don't you choose a name? I really don't know what to pick right now."
"Alright, I'll think of a few names. When Adalia wakes up tomorrow, we'll let her choose. Once she decides, we'll proceed with the adoption process," Fiorello said, gently holding Maggie's shoulder. You look tired; take a rest for a while."
Maggie looked up at him, feeling very comforted. She leaned against him and softly replied, "Okay."
With Fiorello by her side, no matter what happened, Maggie never felt like she was fighting alone. It was a good feeling.
Maggie rested on the hospital bed, watching Fiorello take care of Adalia. She felt guilty inside.
Fiorello was very patient with Adalia. He truly loved children deep down, but unfortunately, she couldn't bear a child for him.
She didn't know how devastated Fiorello would be if he found out she was infertile.
With Fiorello around, Maggie could sleep peacefully. In the middle of the night, she heard Adalia having a nightmare.
She was about to get up to comfort Adalia when she saw Fiorello beat her to it. Fiorello held Adalia and walked around the ward, soothing her with great patience.
Maggie laid back down, watching Fiorello comfort Adalia.
Perhaps feeling secure, Adalia soon fell back into a deep sleep.
Moonlight streamed in through the window, casting a faint halo on Fiorello. Maggie smiled. If Fiorello had had his own child, he would surely have been a great father.
The next day, after a day and night of fever, Adalia woke up looking particularly tired and weak.
Maggie held her in her arms, saying gently, "Adalia, from now on, I'll protect you. You don't have to be afraid anymore. You'll live with me from now on, okay?"
Adalia's eyes flickered. Maggie had said similar things before, so Adalia didn't take it seriously.
Adalia was still afraid of Susan. She couldn't forget the beating, her body twitching intermittently, her expression blank.
"Adalia."
Fiorello came back with breakfast, holding a few sheets of A4 paper with some names written on them. "Adalia, Aunty Flores didn't lie to you. Upon your recovery, you will reside with us and allow us to serve as your parents. Is that acceptable? I've picked out a few names for you."
Adalia seemed to understand it vaguely. She looked at Maggie and Fiorello, only understanding that they wanted to be her mom and dad. Uncle Fiorello and her favorite, Aunty Flores, wanted to be her mom and dad.
Adalia's voice was tender, with a hint of cautiousness as she asked, "Really?"
Maggie smiled and said, "Of course it's true."
Fiorello held up a few sheets of letter-sized paper and said, "Here are the new names I've chosen for you: Grace Flores and Natalie Flores. Which name do you like? Your nickname will still be Adalia."
Adalia couldn't read, but she could understand the words. Uncle Fiorello had given her a new name. Were they really going to be her new parents?
What about her previous parents?
"Uncle Fiorello, what about my real parents?"
Adalia couldn't fully comprehend some things yet. Maggie and Fiorello exchanged glances, and Fiorello explained, "They won't be your parents anymore. Aunty Fiorello and I will be your new parents, okay?"
Adalia's gaze shifted between Fiorello and Maggie, and finally, she nodded and pointed to the name Grace Flores.
"I like this name."
Seeing Adalia choose a name, Maggie joyfully kissed her, and Adalia smiled.
Maggie exclaimed, "You're my daughter now. Fiorello, go handle the paperwork."
To prevent any future complications, Fiorello became Adalia's legal guardian, providing Maggie with security.
Fiorello smiled and kissed both of their foreheads. "Alright, I'll go take care of it now."
Although Adalia wasn't their biological daughter, watching Maggie embrace Adalia and see their happiness made him think about protecting the mother-daughter duo.
They were now a family of three, and whether or not they had their own children didn't matter much to him. The Flores family, including Holden, would surely have children in the future, ensuring the Flores family's continuation.
