Chapter 144 A Family of Three's Breakfast

The next day.
As the first light of dawn painted the sky, Maggie and Fiorello found themselves roused from their slumber by an unexpected sound from the living room. Their minds, still foggy with sleep, had momentarily forgotten the new addition to their household. Stifling a yawn, Maggie rose from the bed and padded towards the source of the noise. The sight that greeted her in the living room left her momentarily stunned. Adalia was diligently mopping the floor. "Adalia, why aren't you sleeping?" Maggie asked, her voice heavy with sleep. The day was barely breaking, the sun just peeking over the horizon. It was unusual for a child of Adalia's age to be up so early, let alone doing household chores. Adalia looked up, her face a picture of confusion. She was accustomed to rising early and tending to the housework.

"Adalia, you don't have to do the chores at home from now on," Maggie said gently, taking the mop from her hands. "Are you hungry? Shall I cook something for you?"The child nodded, her stomach grumbling in agreement. With a fond smile, Maggie pinched Adalia's nose playfully. "Play in the living room for a while, I'll make breakfast for you."Moving quietly to avoid waking Fiorello, Maggie retreated to the kitchen. She busied herself with preparing oatmeal and frying eggs, a simple but hearty breakfast for Adalia. As she turned around, she found Adalia standing at the kitchen door. "Aunt Maggie, let me help you," she offered, her sincerity tugging at Maggie's heartstrings. "Adalia, help me pick out these vegetables," Maggie suggested, realizing that Adalia would feel more at ease if she was allowed to contribute. The child had lived under Susan's oppressive rule for so long that her sensitivity was heightened, a trait that wouldn't be easily corrected.Delighted at the opportunity to help, Adalia eagerly set to work. As they prepared breakfast together, Maggie found herself getting to know the child better.Meanwhile, Fiorello, a light sleeper, had been roused by Maggie's movements. He emerged from their bedroom to find Maggie and Adalia chatting in the kitchen. Through the frosted glass, he could make out Adalia's small figure, diligently assisting Maggie. The sight brought a smile to his face. Maggie was patient with children. If they were to have a child of their own, he knew she would make an excellent mother. The thought warmed his heart, painting a picture of a perfect family. After freshening up, Fiorello joined them in the kitchen. By then, it was past six, and breakfast was ready.

"Such a rich breakfast today, and Adalia helped too, fantastic," he praised, knowing that encouraging words would boost the child's confidence. Adalia beamed at his praise. "Yes, I helped Aunt Maggie with the eggs, and I picked out the vegetables too. Uncle Fiorello, let's eat."With Adalia speaking more freely, both Maggie and Fiorello felt a sense of reassurance. "Very impressive," Fiorello complimented, patting Adalia's head affectionately. "Let's have breakfast a bit earlier today," Maggie suggested, chuckling at their unusual morning routine. The three of them sat down to eat, with Maggie constantly serving Adalia. Fiorello found himself relishing the sense of family that their shared meal brought. Having a child in the house certainly added a new layer of warmth and liveliness. After breakfast, they cleaned up the kitchen together. With the clock striking seven, Maggie had to prepare for work, and Fiorello had to head to the office. The question of who would look after Adalia during the day posed a challenge."How about I have my mom come over to look after her for the day? Tomorrow is the weekend," Maggie suggested. Eleanor lived at the Flores Manor, not next door. It wouldn't be convenient for Fiorello to ask Eleanor to come over to look after Adalia, nor to take Adalia to the office.

Having Arya look after her for the day seemed like the best option.
Fiorello agreed, and Maggie promptly called Arya.
