Chapter 386 The Fight Between Two Girls
Emily's words hit Maggie hard.
She hadn't really been a mom since the baby was born.
With Maggie pregnant and the baby unstable, Fiorello told Emily, "You're sleeping with Grandma tonight."
Fiorello's stern tone scared Emily a bit.
Emily, being smart, quickly figured out she needed to win over Fiorello to stay with her mom.
With teary eyes, Emily asked, "Are you my dad?"
Maggie, not wanting to put Fiorello on the spot, answered, "He's not your dad, Emily. Call him Uncle Flores. Go sleep with Grandma; it's late."
Maggie knew Fiorello allowing Emily to stay was already a big ask. Having Emily call him "Dad" would be too much. Besides, the painful truth was Maggie couldn't even remember who Emily's real father was – a memory she preferred to keep buried.
Even though Emily was young, she understood a lot. She realized Maggie had remarried, Fiorello was her husband, and the girl in his arms was their daughter.
Emily thought Fiorello didn't like her; he liked Adalia.
Emily didn't make a fuss and followed Arya to bed. She asked Arya, "Grandma, where's my real dad?"
Arya replied, "I don't know either."
Since Emily might be her long-lost granddaughter, Arya was gentler with her. "Emily, don't mention your dad in front of your mom. Listen to your mom and Uncle Fiorello, get along with Adalia, and take care of your little brother when he's born."
Emily asked, "Does Mom have a little brother now?"
"Yes, your mom's pregnant with a little brother, so be good and don't make her angry," Arya said with a smile. "Now go to sleep."
Emily understood. Maggie and Fiorello had a daughter and were having a son, so they wouldn't love her anymore.
Emily resented the little brother. She thought he was there to take her mom away, to share her mom's love, and she didn't want to share.
She wanted her mom to love only her.
That night, Maggie couldn't sleep, worried.
Near dawn, Maggie finally felt sleepy. She didn't know how long she had slept when she heard crying.
Maggie immediately thought of Emily's rebelliousness and opened her eyes.
It was already eight in the morning. It was Saturday, Fiorello had gone out, and Adalia didn't have school. Adalia and Emily had fought over a Barbie doll.
Both were crying.
Because Fiorello wasn't home, Emily dared to act out.
Arya heard the noise and came out of the kitchen. She didn't know who was right or wrong, but she had been with Adalia longer and instinctively defended her. "Emily, apologize to Adalia. You're the older one; you can't bully her."
Emily cried, "I won't apologize. The Barbie doll is mine. She took my stuff."
Maggie came out and saw the dismantled Barbie doll on the floor. She asked, "What's going on?"
Sleep-deprived, Maggie had a headache from the kids crying.
Emily said, "She took my Barbie doll."
Adalia argued, "Dad bought this for me, not you."
Adalia didn't understand why Emily didn't like her, always taking her things and accusing her.
Adalia was very sad. This Barbie doll was a gift from Fiorello, and now Emily had torn it apart.
Maggie recognized the Barbie doll as one Fiorello had bought and said sternly to Emily, "Apologize to Adalia. And why did you take her things? That's wrong."
"It's mine. It was on the table, and it didn't have anyone's name on it. If I took it, it's mine." Emily stubbornly refused to admit her mistake.
Hearing this, Maggie was shocked. Emily's way of thinking was seriously problematic.
