Chapter 26 Exposing Fiorello's Lie

Maggie was casually flipping through a fashion magazine when Dulcinea came running over in a frenzy.

"Maggie, Maggie, I just saw the CEO of Visionary Futures Group," Dulcinea said excitedly, her entire demeanor one of exhilaration.

Maggie, who was married to the CEO of Visionary Futures Group, had really hit the jackpot, ascending to the ranks of the wealthy elite.

Maggie laughed and said, "Dulce, do you really need to be so worked up? Just seeing a CEO of Visionary Futures Group gets you this excited; you didn't even get this excited when you first saw Fiorello. Is he even more handsome than Fiorello? That'd hardly be human."

Dulcinea sat down, took a sip of water to calm her nerves, and said, "I'm not going to talk about it right now. I need a moment to collect myself."

She had so much she wanted to say but was fearful of misspeaking.

Observing Maggie's reaction, it seemed she was completely unaware of Fiorello's true identity. Why would Fiorello keep this a secret from Maggie? And why would he marry Maggie? For a family as wealthy and well-connected as the Flores's, it was puzzling why they would choose Maggie, who came from no particularly notable background.

Dulcinea's head was swirling with questions, afraid that Maggie might not be able to handle the truth, she didn't reveal what she had learned right away.

Seeing Dulcinea really had Maggie curious: "Come on, spill the beans, what does the CEO of Visionary Futures Group look like?"

"I... I actually didn't get a good look, just saw his silhouette." Dulcinea decided it was best not to say anything for now. She needed to find out why Fiorello married Maggie. She couldn't let her friend get hurt.

Maggie had struggled with depression in the past. What if something triggered a relapse?

Maggie just laughed, "And you were so excited just now."

"Well, he's the CEO of Visionary Futures Group—literally a man at the top of the pyramid. Even a glimpse of his silhouette is enough to make one's heart race," Dulcinea said tentatively. "By the way, Maggie, how did you and Fiorello end up getting married? Did you really meet on a dating website and tie the knot after just one date?"

Maggie nodded, "Yes, my mom signed me up on a dating site. He was in a hurry to get married too. According to the website, Fiorello had been on many dates. He liked what he saw in my profile, and I thought he was decent enough, so we went ahead and got a marriage license."

Dulcinea was perplexed—how could the CEO of Visionary Futures Group be on a dating site?

From Maggie's reaction, it appeared she truly didn't know Fiorello's real situation.

Dulcinea pressed on, "did he say he was an orphan and single with no property?"

Maggie nodded again. "Yes, that's what his profile stated. Dulce, what's gotten into you? Why are you suddenly asking all this?"

"It's nothing, just making conversation, marveling at the wonder of fate," Dulcinea said with a smile, masking her doubts. "Maggie, did you ever think that one day you'd marry into a wealthy family and become a lady of great leisure?"

Maggie thought Dulcinea's comments indicated a disdain for Fiorello's perceived lack of wealth.

Maggie stated firmly, "I didn't even consider it. The moment Fiorello and I got our marriage certificate, I was already prepared to live with him. As long as he isn't unfaithful to me, treats me well, and it doesn't matter if we're rich or poor. Besides, being a billionaire's wife isn't all it's cracked up to be. You couldn't pay me enough to want that."

Lately, social media was rife with stories of heiresses oppressed by their in-laws—proof that marrying into wealth was no easy feat.

Just a few days ago, Maggie had come across a news article about a once-famous actress who married into a wealthy family. She was required to wake up at 6 AM every day, her mother-in-law incessantly imposed rules on her, she had to take care of all household chores, and her husband often didn't come home at night.

Such a marriage was pitiable.

Dulcinea gave a dry laugh, not daring to probe further, and simply said, "Maggie, you're right. Plus, you've hooked such a handsome husband. That's like striking gold."

Dulcinea's only worry now was that Fiorello might just be toying with Maggie, playing with her feelings, and might decide not to acknowledge her once he got bored.

Why else would he keep Maggie in a separate place and lie about the house being rented?

Still, without knowing the whole story, Dulcinea dared not say more.

Checking the time, Maggie remarked, "Dulce, I should get going. I have to set up for the evening market at five."

"Alright, I'll walk with you. I've already told my friend I’d be back, and I need to check in at the beauty salon."

Leaving the club behind, Maggie arrived home to find Fiorello there.

"You're back," Fiorello said.

"Yeah," she replied.

After changing her shoes, Maggie shared, "Today, my mom dragged me to my aunt's house. Then I joined Dulcinea at The corner of the Metropolitan Club. Oh, and your boss was there, too. Loads of girls were on the lookout. Even Dulcinea went to see."

Hearing this, Fiorello's heart skipped a beat.
