Chapter 505 The Truth in the Surveillance Footage
Maggie had been chatting with Francis a lot more lately. She knew he had this tough exterior but was actually a softie inside. Sometimes he'd crack a joke, but most of the time, he was all business.
Francis asked a colleague to help retrieve the traffic surveillance footage from the day of Maggie's accident.
In the surveillance room, the officer on duty, Leon, said, "Francis, Ms. Miller, here are the tapes from Harmony Street that day. I'm about to make some instant noodles. Want any?"
Maggie shook her head. "No, thanks."
Francis, on the other hand, wasn't so polite. "Leon, why are you eating instant noodles? Ms. Miller here has ordered food for everyone. You'll eat that later."
Maggie looked at Francis, puzzled. When did she order food?
Leon grinned. "Thanks, Ms. Miller. There are four of us on duty today, so you don't need to order too much."
Maggie laughed. Everyone was as straightforward as Francis.
"It's the least I can do. Thanks, Leon." Maggie had to go along with it since she needed their help. Treating them to a meal was the least she could do.
After Leon left, Maggie sat down and pulled out her phone to order takeout. She couldn't back out now.
Seeing her ordering food, Francis said, "You're here to watch the video. I've already ordered the food. Save your money for Adalia."
"You really are something." Maggie was a bit taken aback by Francis' comment and glared at him. "I make more in a month than you do. If you help me out and spend your own money, I won't feel right."
Maggie could pull in at least $3,000 a month from her street stall. Plus, she did design work on the side.
A lot of people bought her creative designs, especially jewelry companies. When their designers hit a block, they'd buy outside creations. If she was lucky, a design could sell for a few hundred bucks, and she could make several thousand dollars a month from that.
Maggie used to be hesitant to sell her designs. Each one was her hard work. But now, things were different. She had to make ends meet.
She had expenses everywhere – rent, utilities, living costs, and various other expenses. On top of that, Adalia's school fees were also quite high.
Francis didn't want to argue with Maggie. He walked over and pulled her to the surveillance screen. "I can take care of myself. Focus on the video. Do you remember the exact time you passed Harmony Street?"
"I only remember roughly. That day, I was in so much pain that my mind was foggy. I remember lying down after lunch, and then my stomach started hurting. We left Sunset Hills for the hospital around two."
"Then we'll have to watch it slowly," Francis said as he scrolled through the footage. "The car passing that intersection only takes a few seconds. If we can't pinpoint the exact time, we'll have to keep an eye on this intersection until the car shows up."
The two of them sat in front of the screen, waiting. Maggie was super nervous, afraid of missing Isabella's car. After about ten minutes, Isabella's car finally appeared at the Harmony Street intersection.
Maggie's heart tightened. Deep down, she hoped the incident had nothing to do with Isabella and that it was just an accident.
Isabella's car showed up in the straight lane, and it noticeably slowed down as it approached the intersection.
Maggie stared at the screen. When she saw Isabella's car in the straight lane about to pass the intersection, it suddenly swerved into the lane where the accident happened at the last second.
Seeing this, Maggie's heart sank.
