Chapter 153 Let's Have a Child

Eleanor was taken aback, her eyes wide with surprise. "Where could Fiorello be at this late hour? I haven't laid eyes on him all day."In a hushed tone, Holden confided, "Oddly enough, Fiorello's phone seems to be switched off. I'll consult Mr. Harrison."Holden dialed William, Fiorello's right-hand man, confident that he would be privy to Fiorello's whereabouts. However, even William was left in the dark.Eleanor's gaze flickered to the clock. "It's nearing midnight. He's not at home with Maggie. What could he possibly be doing out there? Maggie treats him so well. Tomorrow, I'll have a word with Fiorello and urge her to be more stringent with him. His behavior is unacceptable. A man with a wife should be home at this hour."The Flores family held a deep respect for punctuality, especially when it came to returning home. Unless there were social obligations, everyone was expected to be home before the clock struck midnight.Holden couldn't help but smirk, "Mom, you're so critical of Fiorello. If one didn't know any better, they'd think Maggie was your biological daughter and Fiorello the adopted one."Eleanor shot Holden a disdainful look. "You should be more serious too. If I hear any more rumors about you, don't bother coming home."
"Mom, why are you scolding me again?" Holden felt wronged and quickly shifted the topic. "Has Dad not returned yet?""I'm at a loss as to what your father has been up to lately. He leaves at dawn and only returns at dusk." Eleanor voiced her concern, "Holden, your dad is over fifty. Could he be out chasing other women?""No, Mom, you're so gentle, beautiful, and charming. Dad's not blind. He wouldn't forsake the beauty at home for mistresses outside."Holden was quick to compliment, "Under your reign, our family has thrived all these years. Dad not only has no mistresses, but there aren't even any rumors about him, all thanks to Mom's prowess."Eleanor chuckled, amused. "You're quite the smooth talker. Reply to Maggie, tell her Fiorello is working overtime, and she should rest. I'll deal with Fiorello later."Regardless of Fiorello's whereabouts or actions, Eleanor's priority was to ensure Maggie's peace of mind. This minor issue of coming home late shouldn't affect their relationship.Maggie sat on the bed, her gaze fixed on her phone, awaiting Fiorello's message. She had made several attempts to reach him, all in vain. Then, a message from Holden appeared.

Holden: [Maggie, I found Fiorello. He's working overtime, his phone died. Rest early, Fiorello will be back once he's done.]Maggie felt a pang of doubt at Holden's words. If Fiorello's phone had died, he could have borrowed a colleague's to call her. "Holden has contacted Fiorello. Even if his phone died, he could borrow a colleague's phone to call me." Maggie was anxious, but then she heard a noise at the door.Hoping it was Fiorello returning, Maggie slipped on her slippers and ventured out. But Fiorello was nowhere to be seen. She stood at the door, waiting for it to open. After a while, she opened the door and peered outside, but the hallway was empty. Disappointed, she retreated back inside. With Fiorello absent, sleep eluded her and her mind was a whirl of thoughts. The feeling of missing someone without a response was akin to being scratched by cat claws, an unbearable sensation. Maggie's eyes felt dry, but she couldn't bring herself to close them. It was almost 3 a.m., and exhaustion was setting in.Gradually, Maggie succumbed to sleep. In her drowsy state, a cold breath enveloped her. Struggling to open her eyes, she couldn't tell the time but sensed dawn was approaching. Through the dim light filtering in through the window, she could just make out Fiorello's features.Maggie muttered, "Why are you back so late?"Fiorello seemed urgent, his hands reaching for her clothes, but then he seemed to restrain himself. His voice was low and hoarse. "Maggie, let's have a child."
