Chapter 64 A Casual Remark Turned Prophecy

Holden was confident in his assessment. He believed that by currying favor with his sister-in-law, he would secure another ally for his future endeavors.

With a self-satisfied smile, Holden lounged against the desk, his hands nonchalantly supporting his weight. "Fiorello," he began, his tone light and teasing, "how was the movie with Maggie last night? Did the romantic scenes stir your emotions, perhaps even compelling you to hold hands or steal a kiss?"

At the mention of the movie, Fiorello shot a pointed look at Holden. "You can forget about your pocket money for the first half of next year," he declared.

Taken aback, Holden protested, clutching at Fiorello's arm. "What? Why?" he cried. "Fiorello, I'm broke. You've already cut me off this year. If you do it again next year, I'll be reduced to begging on the streets. We're brothers, aren't we?"

His performance was melodramatic, almost to the point of squeezing out a pair of crocodile tears. Despite being the vice president of Visionary Futures Group, Holden still relied on Fiorello for his salary. However, even with his meager earnings and pocket money, his circumstances remained largely unchanged. He was, after all, a skilled actor.

Fiorello stared at Holden, who was still clutching his hand, with a look of disdain. "Remove your hand," he commanded.

Holden quickly complied, his expression one of pitiful pleading. "Fiorello, could it be that the movie wasn't chosen well? That's impossible. I've seen that film; it was so ambiguous. It's a perfect movie for couples, and in that dim environment, there should have been some sparks," he reasoned.

"It was too explicit," Fiorello countered. "The setting wasn't appropriate."

Understanding dawned on Holden, and he smirked. "Fiorello, that was my oversight. Next time, you should watch it with my sister-in-law at home, or perhaps in one of those private theaters. Just the two of you, doing whatever you want. The atmosphere would be electrifying."

Holden's words grew increasingly absurd, prompting Fiorello to make a show of striking him. However, Holden dodged the mock blow and laughed. "Fiorello, I understand, I understand. I'll go visit my sister-in-law at the branch office. It's her first day of work, and I'm worried she won't fit in. She's so beautiful; she might attract unwanted attention. That wouldn't be good."

"I've already spoken to Jones from the branch office. You don't need to interfere," Fiorello retorted, tossing a stack of documents at Holden. "Don't even think about using this as an excuse to leave. Review these projects and handle them."

"Fiorello, you exploited me when we were kids, and you're still exploiting me now, even docking my salary. If only I had been born first, then I could have been the older brother," Holden lamented.

In the world of the aristocracy, brothers often engaged in covert battles for inheritance. However, in the Flores family, the two brothers seemed to be competing for idleness.

Fiorello donned his coat, patting Holden's shoulder as he did so. "Just focus on this issue. Get the work done, and I'll have more time for dates with your sister-in-law in the future. Pay more attention to the company's affairs."

Holden sighed, muttering, "Why didn't Mom have another child? Then I could just laze around, eat, drink, and have fun. Or maybe Dad could have a bastard child outside, to fight for inheritance. Our family is like a stagnant stream in the aristocratic world, with no challenges at all."

Given the Flores family's wealth and status, even a lifetime of indulgence would be enough. Holden had no desire to strive or work hard. It felt meaningless. After all, the Flores family was not lacking in money.

Fiorello shot Holden a warning glance. "Don't let Mom hear you say that, or Dad will end up sleeping on the couch. Don't blame Dad if he cuts off your cards."

Holden chuckled, "I was just joking, Fiorello. You go. I'll take a look at the project and have a good time with my sister-in-law. Let's try to increase the number of kids in the Flores family."

Little did Holden know that his casual remark would soon become a reality.
