Chapter 309 Another Side of Melissa

Maggie had no prior knowledge that Timothy was unaware of the successful match.

Seeing the varied expressions on the family's faces, she lost interest in staying any longer.

From now on, she would let the family discuss the matter among themselves.

Maggie said, "It seems there's no point in having this meal. I'll be taking my leave."

With that, Maggie left.

At the door, she saw Arya, who had returned earlier.

To be precise, Arya had never left; she was worried about Maggie and had been listening at the door.

Arya's eyes were red, and she felt ditressed as she saw Mark's true colors.

Mark had tricked Maggie into coming to London, indeed, to get her to donate bone marrow.

Maggie said nothing, silently taking Arya's hand and leading her downstairs, away from that place.

In the private room.

Maggie's words had already thrown the family into disarray.

Ashley hurriedly explained, "Timothy, Maggie is trying to sow discord; she's lying to you. Melissa, don't believe her either. We love you and would never refuse to save you."

Ashley feared Melissa would blame her for not helping. She could be selfish, but she couldn't let her daughter know.

Mark also said, "Melissa, don't worry. I will find suitable bone marrow for your surgery."

Melissa said nothing, just nodded.

Timothy, disbelieving, said, "Then let me and Melissa do another match."

"What's the point? I've already told you it failed; you're not compatible." Ashley, afraid her son would impulsively try to save Melissa, hinted to Mark. "You take Melissa back to the car. I'll go settle the bill with Timothy."

"Alright." Mark supported Melissa, saying, "I will take you back to the car first. Once you're better, you can go wherever you want and eat whatever you like."

With that, Mark took Melissa away, leaving only Ashley and Timothy in the room.

Timothy wasn't foolish; he could tell his parents hadn't been truthful.

Timothy said, "Mom, can I save Melissa? If you don't tell me the truth, I'll do another match with her."

"You silly child, why are you so stubborn?" Ashley, angry, hit Timothy lightly. "I forbid you to donate bone marrow. It harms your health. You're still young; what if it damages your health? I'm telling you, don't bring this up again. I have a way to make Maggie donate bone marrow; we don't need you to save her."

Timothy, seeing his mother's intentions, was incredulous. "Mom, that's Melissa, my own sister. She could die at any moment. I can save her, but you want me to let her die. Don't you think that's unfair to Melissa? She's my only sister."

"And you're my only son," Ashley said sternly, "I said no, and that's final. You're the heir of this family; your health is the priority. Donating bone marrow has unknown consequences. It could affect your future life and shorten your lifespan. Sacrificing you to save Melissa is out of the question."

"It's not a sacrifice. I'm young and strong; donating a bit of bone marrow is no big deal. Besides, even if it means living a few years less, my sister could die any moment," Timothy said. He didn't like Maggie, but he had a deep bond with Melissa and couldn't let her die.

Because of this, Mark and Ashley had kept the successful match a secret from Timothy.

Ashley said firmly, "Don't bring this up again. Melissa doesn't need you to save her. If you mention it again, you'll be forcing your father and me to our deaths."

"Mom," Timothy sighed helplessly and walked out angrily.

On the way back to the hospital, Melissa acted as if nothing had happened. As long as she had the strength, she kept chatting and laughing with her family, which made Timothy feel even worse.

Timothy could hardly look Melissa in the eye, feeling guilty and uneasy.

When they arrived at the hospital, Melissa obediently took her medicine and went to bed. She had spent more time in the hospital than at home over the years.

Timothy wanted to speak several times but was stopped by Ashley's glances.

Ashley smiled and reminded Melissa, "Melissa, rest well. We'll come to see you tomorrow."

Ashley had hired a caregiver for Melissa. Mark was busy with his business, and she couldn't stay at the hospital every day. Most of the time, it was just Melissa and the caregiver, with Ashley visiting during the day.

Melissa nodded and said with a smile, "Alright, Mom, Dad, Timothy, you can go now."

Timothy looked at Melissa for a long time and finally said, "Melissa, take good care of yourself. You'll get better."

Melissa smiled innocently and hopefully. "Timothy, I want to get better soon, too. I want to go to France with you to see the fashion show. You promised me. We also need to see the snow, the sea of clouds, and do so many other things."

"Alright, I promise you. Once you recover, I'll take you," Timothy said, feeling even more pained. Seeing Melissa's determination to live and her longing for the future strengthened his resolve to save her.

"Okay," Melissa said, still so obedient and understanding.

Timothy gently patted Melissa's head. "Rest well. I'll be going now."

"Okay," Melissa replied, still smiling, not mentioning the bone marrow donation at all.

After Timothy, Ashley, and Mark left, the caregiver brought in a basin of water. "Ms. Jackson, the hot water is here."

"Get out," Melissa said, her expression instantly darkening,, a stark contrast to her earlier bright and obedient demeanor.

The caregiver was frightened by Melissa's look, which was terrifying as if she wanted to kill someone.

The caregiver quickly put down the hot water and left.

Melissa sat alone on the hospital bed, her hands tightly gripping the sheets, her eyes filled with resentment and hatred.

Her parents wouldn't save her, so Timothy was her only hope. She had to hold on to him.

Melissa knew Timothy was soft-hearted and that her parents wouldn't agree to him donating bone marrow. She could only appear weak to gain Timothy's sympathy.

She wanted to live.

Even if it meant sacrificing Timothy's health, she wanted to live.

Timothy would only be sacrificing his health, but if she didn't seize this chance, she would lose her life.

After leaving the hospital, Ashley and Mark were still uneasy. Once they had sent Timothy away, Ashley pressured Mark.

"Maggie won't listen to reason, so we'll have to use force. I need her bone marrow, and I don't care what it takes."

Ashley's tone was full of resentment towards Maggie. If it weren't for Maggie, Timothy wouldn't have known about the successful match. Melissa wouldn't have known either, and she wouldn't have been embarrassed in front of the children.

Mark thought about the three conditions Maggie had proposed and found the situation tricky. They would have to use force.

"Do whatever you need to; just don't make a big scene," Mark said, giving his tacit approval.

He was a prominent figure in his social circle. He couldn't be seen scheming against his own daughter. If word got out, his reputation would be ruined.

Ashley sneered and said, "As long as I have your approval. I've got a friend who runs a clinic. We'll take Maggie there and extract the bone marrow. With some drugs, she won't know a thing. She doesn't have much power anyway."

Ashley had already made up her mind. Since Maggie had come to London, she wouldn't be leaving so easily.

London was her territory, and dealing with Maggie would be a simple matter.
