Chapter 86 An Eye for an Eye

Having briefed Eleanor, Fiorello took his leave. At the entrance of Cityhomes West, a fleet of luxury vehicles idled, their engines purring softly in the still night air.

William, along with his cadre of bodyguards, stood sentinel by one of the cars, their faces etched with gravity. Fiorello had instructed him to tail him in a taxi back to Cityhomes West and then await his arrival at the entrance. As Fiorello emerged from the neighborhood, William promptly exited the vehicle and respectfully swung open the car door. "Mr. Flores," he greeted.Fiorello's countenance was icy as he slid into the car. "What is the current reaction of the Quixote family?" he inquired."David has been rushed to the hospital," William reported. "George received the news and has also hastened to the hospital. The person in charge of the Sercial Guild Hall has gone to offer condolences. They are presently conducting a search for the person who assaulted David."A cold smirk played on Fiorello's lips. "Let's pay a visit to the hospital. David Quixote is gravely injured. We must extend our heartfelt condolences." The word "condolences" was laced with a chilling undercurrent of lethal intent....Meanwhile, at the hospital.David was still sequestered in the operating room. It was Lily who had brought him to the hospital.Anxiety gnawed at Lily as she waited outside the operating room. George, along with the elderly matriarch of the Quixote family, arrived in a flurry of urgency.Upon spotting Lily, George immediately queried, "How is David? What happened exactly? Who attacked him?"Incensed that her beloved grandson had been assaulted, the old lady of the Quixote family rapped her cane on the floor forcefully. "Who dared to attack my grandson?" she demanded.Lily recalled the dire state David was in when he was brought in and a wave of worry washed over her. "I'm not certain who attacked him. The assailant wore a mask, obscuring their identity. But their presence was menacing, and their gaze unnerving," Lily recounted. "I suspect they may be connected to Selena's assistant, Maggie.""Who are Selena and Maggie?" George, oblivious to such minor characters, retorted sternly, "Stick to the facts. What happened?""Selena is a designer at a jewelry company owned by Visionary Futures Group. I had visited their company to order some jewelry, and their assistant, Maggie, was present in the meeting hall. A disagreement ensued between her and David, and then a man suddenly appeared and assaulted David without uttering a word. David sustained two broken ribs and his left pinky finger was severed," Lily explained, carefully glossing over the details of the "disagreement" and omitting David's actions towards Maggie."What?" The news of David's injuries left the Quixote matriarch both livid and heartbroken. "My David, someone dared to inflict such harm on him? George, our son's pinky was severed and his ribs were broken. You must seek justice for David."The news shocked George. The Quixotes were a family of high social standing, and only the affluent and influential were granted entry into the Sercial Guild Hall. How could someone have grievously injured his son?George was well aware of his son's character. David was a bully, often causing harm to others. Yet, the Quixote family had always managed to quell any trouble he stirred up and shield him. This was undoubtedly the first time someone had dared to trample on the Quixote's family's reputation and stir up trouble.George's face blanched, and he reassured his mother, "Don't worry, Mom. If someone dares to harm David, I will make sure they pay back tenfold."Just then, the door to the operating room swung open.David, swathed in bandages, was wheeled out by the doctor.Old lady Quixote hobbled forward with her cane and looked at the heavily bandaged David. Her voice choked with sorrow, she lamented, "David, my grandson, my poor, poor grandson!""David." George was equally taken aback by his son's battered appearance. The effects of the anesthesia hadn't completely worn off, and David was still semi-conscious.The doctor began to list David's injuries, "Eight stitches on the head, mild concussion, the left pinky couldn't be reattached due to the time delay, two broken ribs, multiple soft tissue contusions, and internal bleeding in the abdomen..."With each word the doctor uttered, the expressions of old lady Quixote and George soured further, their anger and heartache intensifying.
