Chapter 289 Unexpected Trouble

Farrell looked at the bill handed to him by the waiter. He glanced at Owen and Amelie. Owen had a smile on his face and showed no intention of paying.

As a woman, Amelie was even less likely to foot the bill. The waiter, seeing Farrell not moving, repeated, "Sir, please pay at the front desk."

Farrell realized he was being set up again. "You should ask them to pay, not me."

Glancing at the other two, Owen quickly said, "Mr. Florez, I'm here to assist you as a service personnel. It wouldn't be right for me to pay. This was your date with Miss Miller, and I'm just doing my job for a salary. Asking me to pay wouldn't be appropriate."

Farrell looked at Amelie. She said, "I'm a woman, and I didn't drink much. You can't expect me to pay. That's ridiculous. I have to go."

With that, Amelie really left.

Farrell looked at the waiter, then at Owen, who was grinning smugly. He sneered, "Cheating me again, thinking I'm easy to deceive."

Farrell threw his bag on the table, his expression changing to one of anger and malice. He immediately attacked Owen, pinning him to the ground and beating him. Having been fired, scammed at the barbershop, and now set up again, his anger erupted.

Owen caught off guard, struggled desperately to fight back. "He's hitting me!"

Owen, much smaller in stature, was no match for Farrell and was thoroughly beaten. ""You think I'm easy to bully? You all keep cheating and plotting against me. You're all a bunch of scammers."

Farrell was ruthless. Since signing up for the dating website, he had been scammed out of about ten thousand dollars. Now, they were trying to scam him again. He had taken out various loans for these dates and was deeply in debt. These people thought he was an easy target.

Farrell beat up Owen and then the waiter. He was on the verge of a breakdown, hitting anyone in sight. The bar descended into chaos, and the manager quickly called security.

Farrell ended up getting taken away by the police. Sitting in the back of the police car, he glared angrily at Owen, who was blatantly lying to the officers.

At that moment, Farrell also began to resent Maggie. In his mind, she was in cahoots with these people to scam him. They were all a bunch of liars.

Meanwhile, Maggie had no idea about any of this.

Trouble had struck unexpectedly. She didn't know Farrell had been fired. After work, she went home to pick up Adalia from school. It was already past nine, and Fiorello hadn't come home yet. He had another social engagement.

Maggie sometimes found it odd that Fiorello, just a programmer, had so many social engagements. "Mom, when is Grandma coming back?" Adalia emerged from her room and sat beside Maggie on the couch.

"Not sure yet," Maggie said, smiling as she touched Adalia's cheek. "Do you miss Grandma?"

Since Arya went to London, she called every day. From the calls, it was clear Arya was having a great time and even urged Maggie to visit. Maggie kept putting it off.

Adalia looked up at Maggie and said in her childish voice, "I miss Grandma. Did she go with Grandpa?"

Arya had taught Adalia to call Mark "Grandpa," and Adalia remembered. "Yes, Grandma went to London with Grandpa for a few days. They should be back soon."

There were some things Maggie wouldn't discuss with a child. As they were chatting, the doorbell rang. Adalia happily got off the couch. "Daddy's home. I'll get the door."

Adalia went to open the door, but her expression fell when she saw who was there.
