Chapter 481 Leaving with Nothing
When Maggie found out Fiorello had spent the whole night in the hospital, she broke down, tears streaming down her face. It felt like someone had ripped her heart out.
Clutching her chest, she struggled to breathe. "I told him to stay out of it. Why doesn't he ever listen? Why is he so stubborn?"
She sat on the edge of the bed, her face twisted in pain.
Holden watched her, feeling torn. "Ms. Miller, Fiorello said he owed you this. Maybe you two were just doomed from the start."
With tears in her eyes, Maggie looked at Holden and barely managed to ask, "How is he now?"
"He's still in a coma. The doctors have no idea when he'll wake up. But don't worry, he made sure everything was set for you before he did this," Holden said, glancing at the divorce papers on the table. "Sign them. If my dad changes his mind, everything Fiorello did will be for nothing."
Maggie was shocked. "You mean he hurt himself?"
"Yeah," Holden sighed. "He used the same fruit knife you used on Grandma and stabbed himself in front of everyone. He said it was to make up for what you did to Grandma. If my dad hadn't stopped him from stabbing himself again, we'd be planning a funeral right now."
Holden's voice had a mocking edge to it.
Maggie's eyes widened, tears pouring down her face. Her heart hurt so much that she turned pale. It took her a while to calm down even a little.
She closed her eyes, took a few deep breaths, and said, "Holden, get new divorce papers. I don't want the money or the house. I came into this marriage with nothing, and I'll leave with nothing."
"Maggie," Holden said, confused. He couldn't understand why she'd turn down a house worth millions and a ten-million-dollar settlement.
Maggie stared at him, determined. "Get the new papers."
Holden had no choice but to get the lawyer to draft new divorce papers.
When Maggie signed her name, her hands were ice-cold. As she wrote, memories of her time with Fiorello flashed through her mind like a movie.
He gave her gifts and took her to see fireworks. They commuted together, spent weekends at home watching TV, and cooked together.
Those simple, happy times were gone forever.
They had been so excited about having a baby, dreaming about the future, and planning their honeymoon. They had promised to grow old together.
But in just a year, it was all over.
Just like it started, it ended unexpectedly.
After signing the papers, Maggie felt completely drained, her eyes empty.
With the Flores family's influence, the divorce was quick and easy. Maggie and Fiorello didn't even need to be there. From the moment Maggie signed to getting the divorce certificate, it took only half an hour.
It was faster than getting their marriage certificate.
After everything was done, Holden stood up and said, "Ms. Miller, you can leave in three days."
Maggie leaned against the cold wall, silent even after Holden left.
She stared at the white ceiling, feeling like her life was as blank and confusing as those white walls. Looking back, she couldn't understand how things had ended up like this.
After finalizing the divorce, Holden went to handle the paperwork for claiming Kimberly's body.
The case was closed, and the family could now take the body home.
After Holden left, a man in a dark trench coat with a buzz cut and sharp features walked into the office. A young officer organizing Kimberly's case files saw him and said respectfully, "Francis, what brings you here? Weren't you in the neighboring city investigating the 718 case?"
This man was Francis Hudson, the great detective. Coming from a family of police officers, with three generations in the force, Francis had solved several major cases and earned significant respect and the title of great detective.
"I came to help. How much longer will it take?" Francis casually glanced at the case files on the desk and picked one up. "Is Mrs. Flores dead?"
The young officer replied, "Francis, while you were away in Cyberland, something big happened. Fiorello's wife killed Mrs. Flores with a knife in a mall. The perpetrator turned herself in, and the case is closed. I'm just about to file these documents."
Francis frowned as he looked at the information in the file. "The perpetrator, Maggie, killed for revenge. Mrs. Flores poisoned and killed her five-month-old fetus. This is explosive. Nothing surprises me in these wealthy families. The victim has two stab wounds to the chest, the fatal one being the second. Why stab twice?"
Due to his profession, Francis was particularly sensitive to this information.
