Chapter 241 Exposing the Mastermind
Fiorello led Kathy into the study, confronting this woman once more. He had no patience whatsoever.
"Kathy, you're asking for trouble. Let me reiterate: seize the money and flee, or else I'll find ways to make you vanish.
Seeing the murderous intent in Fiorello's eyes, Kathy wasn't foolish enough to risk her life, no matter how foolish she was.
After the last incident, she witnessed the Smith family's wealth and had some crooked thoughts, but she also knew she was a fake, brought in by someone else to impersonate.
If she succeeded, that person would expose her. If she failed, there would be no good outcome.
After weighing her options, Kathy decided that taking the money and running was the best choice.
She didn't want to cause trouble for the Flores family this time; it was that person who forced her to come.
Kathy also realized that this might be her last chance. Marrying into a wealthy family was out of the question, but making some money was a real possibility.
Kathy dropped the act; her demeanor changed quickly, and she said, "Mr. Flores, if you want to get rid of me, five million dollars won't cut it."
Seeing Kathy change her attitude, Fiorello's expression softened slightly. Leaning against the table, he asked, "How much do you want?"
"10 million dollars." Kathy held up a finger and said, "I can't just be used by you for free. I know that I can't get in for families like yours, but there has to be a price to pay. Simply paying 10 million dollars won't pose a problem for you.
"So you've come to your senses so quickly?" Fiorello's gaze turned sinister. "If you reveal the mastermind behind you, I'll give you another 10 million dollars."
"What mastermind?" Kathy pretended to be clueless.
"Don't play tricks in front of me." Fiorello tapped the table lightly and said, "On the day at Happy Pub, it was the Romani festival; your people attach great importance to this festival. According to your customs, everyone returns to their hometown for the blessing ceremony."
Fiorello recalled what Holden had said earlier; Kathy was Romani, which led him to think of the blessing festival.
The blessing festival was similar to Christmas, both of which are important holidays where one must return home no matter where they are.
Kathy's eyes flickered as she spoke, feeling guilty. That day, she did indeed return to her hometown for the blessing festival.
"I didn't go back that day; I couldn't get a ticket," Kathy continued to argue. "Mr. Fiorello, as long as you pay me, I won't cause any more trouble."
"Don't you really want to take another 10 million dollars?" Fiorello tempted Kathy with money. "The person behind you can't offer as much-about ten thousand dollars, maybe twenty thousand dollars?"
If she said she wasn't tempted, it would be a lie. Kathy hesitated.
It was her hesitation that made Fiorello more convinced that there was someone behind Kathy.
Just then, Holden pushed the door open. "Fiorello, the things you wanted just arrived."
Holden was holding a bank statement printout.
Fiorello glanced at it and held it up in front of Kathy. "This is the bank statement for your card. Half a month ago, there was a sudden deposit of 20 thousand dollars into your account. Care to explain where that money came from?"
Kathy personally deposited the money at the bank, but it came from someone else.
For a supermarket cashier to suddenly have an unexpected income would surely raise eyebrows.
"Well..." Kathy couldn't come up with an answer, so Fiorello helped her out. "Someone gave you money to impersonate the person from five years ago."
"No." Kathy continued to deny it. "Wasn't it supposed to be 10 million dollars for me? Where's the money?"
She merely desired to accept the money and depart before facing any consequences.
Holden said, "Do you really think Fiorello is an ATM? Even if he were, it would only be Maggie's ATM, something you can't afford."
"What do you mean?" Kathy asked.
"Wherever you came from, you should go back there." Holden waved his hand and said, "You have thick skin. If given 10 million dollars, would you dare to take it? You might have the luck to take it, but you won't have the luck to spend it."
At these words, Kathy's face changed. Just then, Fiorello suddenly pulled out a gun from the drawer, quickly loaded it, and fired a shot at the clock behind Kathy.
It was a silenced gun, making no sound, but the clock fell to the ground.
Kathy had never experienced such a situation and screamed, "I'll talk, I'll talk."
