Chapter 182 The Crisis at a Rainy Night
Angela shook her head. "Jones was sent to AL by headquarters. He is meticulous in his work and has a keen eye for people. You must have exceptional abilities, Mrs. Miller. I suddenly find you very intriguing."
Maggie smiled faintly. "Mrs. Torres, if you want to know more about me, then you should return to AL. Let's work together hand in hand."
Maggie used the word "return" instead of "come," implying a sense of returning home.
In other words, AL Jewelry was like a big family, and Angela was a member of this family. This was an invitation for her to return to her family, thereby enhancing the warmth and fostering closer bonds within the family.
In just a few words, Angela's admiration for Maggie increased.
Angela laughed. "Mrs. Miller, you are very persuasive. I almost agree with you. You want me to go back and intimidate the members of the design department. It is indeed a good idea."
Maggie chuckled. "Ms. Torres, I am sincere. I hope you come back. Of course, there is also a little selfishness."
Angela paused, seemingly pondering over something.
Maggie seized the opportunity and said, "If you are willing to come back, I am willing to give up the position of chief designer. You are more suitable for this position."
Angela was surprised and asked with a faint smile, "Are you really willing to give it up?"
"It belonged to someone more capable; of course, I am willing to." Maggie smiled. "I feel a connection with you and believe that we can better understand jewelry design and have a lot to exchange."
After a few seconds of silence, Angela relented, "I will consider it. Jones really didn't misjudge you this time. You almost convinced me to join AL with your talk about hairpins."
Maggie smiled. "Let me call you Angela. Angela, I'll be waiting for you at AL."
"You have a silver tongue." Angela was in a good mood. "If you have any questions, today is not the day to hide things. I will speak frankly."
Maggie was pleased. "Thank you, Angela."
Everyone loved to hear words of praise. Artful speech could achieve twice the result with half the effort.
Maggie and Angela got along well. Before they knew it, it was already past nine o'clock at night.
Maggie had to go back down the mountain.
"Angela, thank you for your generous advice. I have learned a lot today. I have to head back now. As I said before, I'll be waiting for you at AL."
"Alright, I will consider it. Drive safely on your way back," Angela said. "Selena holds grudges. If you offend her, be careful."
Although Angela was not entirely clear about Maggie and Selena's conflict, Maggie's ability to push Selena out indicated that something was going on between them.
With Selena's temperament, she would definitely hold a grudge.
"Thank you for the advice, Angela. I'm leaving." Maggie smiled, started the car, and drove down the mountain.
When she was talking with Angela before, it started to rain lightly. It was dark on the mountain. As it was raining, Maggie had to be cautious when driving, not daring to speed up too much.
After driving for about ten minutes on a steep downhill section, headlights from an oncoming car shone towards her. Maggie slowed down and pressed the brake, only to suddenly realize that the brakes were not working.
As a result, it began to accelerate when it descended the slope. A surge of fear and panic caused Maggie's heart to pound in her chest.
She gripped the steering wheel tightly, her soul almost scared out of her wits. Cars from the opposite direction passed by her occasionally. Minute followed minute; she gradually lost control of the speed. Every sharp turn made her face pale with fear.
Maggie stepped on the brake several times, but it was futile. At that moment, her phone rang, but she couldn't answer it.
The velocity continued to escalate, paired with the dimly lit, slick road and an adjacent cliff. A minor misstep could result in a catastrophic accident.
She felt like she was stepping into death.
Maggie kept honking the horn to alert people below the mountain or cars coming up.
She had to drive on the left side, using the friction between the car and the rock wall to slow down and bring the vehicle to a stop.
