Chapter 214 Interrogation

Dulce had yet to sit down. However, Maggie's words made her hesitate to sit down.
Dulce glanced at Maggie and sat down nervously, asking, "Maggie, what's going on with you today?"
Maggie pulled the corners of her mouth and said, "Eat something first; it'll get cold later."
Dulce dared not eat, and under Maggie's gaze, she forced herself to take a few bites and drank two sips of wine.
Maggie poured wine for Dulce herself and said, "Dulce, I am very grateful for your support over these years. I am so lucky to have a good friend like you, Dulce. Let's drink to our friendship."
"Maggie." Dulce felt uneasy.
Maggie raised her glass, clinked it with Dulce's, and drank it all in one go.
Drinking a bit hastily, Maggie choked and coughed a few times.
Dulce frowned, seeming to realize something, and also finished the wine in her glass.
Maggie placed the empty glass on the table, staring at it, and said, "I went to the hospital today."
Dulce asked with concern, "For a follow-up? Weren't you just discharged? Maggie, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Maggie looked up at Dulce and shook her head. "I went to a different hospital today, had a gynecological check-up, and discovered something, Dulce. Guess what I found?"
It was a rhetorical question.
Upon hearing this, Dulce knew what was going on.
Maggie didn't explain everything clearly, and Dulce continued to pretend not to know. "Why did you suddenly decide to have a gynecological check-up today?"
Maggie stared at Dulce. The night wind on the street was a bit cold. Seeing Dulce still pretending not to know, she said, "Today, the doctor told me that I have given birth before."
The straightforward words made Dulce's heart skip a beat. "Maggie..."
"Dulce," Maggie interrupted her. "You are my good friend. You must know about the part of my memory that I lost. Over these years, you and my mom have kept it a secret very well. The fact that I had given birth to a child, I didn't even know. If I say it out, probably no one would believe it."
Maggie said these words in a self-deprecating tone, and even the doctor had looked at her strangely at the time.
A woman must know if she had given birth to a child, and she shouldn't need someone else to tell her.
Seeing Maggie like this, Dulce felt uncomfortable and worried, explaining, "Maggie, we kept it from you for your own good."
"I never doubted that," Maggie said seriously, "Although I have been living in a daze these years, I have been truly happy. Dulce, I understand the intentions of you and my mom, but now that I know, you can't keep it from me anymore. Where is my daughter? Who is the father of the child? Can you tell me?"
Maggie asked with some difficulty, "How did I get pregnant? Why did I give birth to her? What happened back then? Was that the reason I dropped out of school and suffered from depression?"
"Yes," Dulce held the wine glass tightly. With things having come to this point, Dulce couldn't keep it from Maggie anymore and said, "After you gave birth to the child, Arya took the baby away, and you fell into severe depression, so much so that you didn't even recognize Arya and me."
"Sam was telling the truth; I was dating two men at the same time," Maggie pressed on. "Who is the father of the child?"
"No, you weren't," Dulce said, "When Arya was injured and hospitalized back then, you took on a part-time job to earn money, and that's how things happened. As for that man, I don't know, and you never told us."
Maggie tried hard to remember but couldn't recall, muttering to herself, "You don't even know who he is."
"Maggie, it's been so many years since all this happened. Don't dwell on it anymore. Your marriage with Fiorello is very happy now. There's no need to add these troubles."
