Chapter 436 Abortion Pills
Isabella's feelings were all over the place.
Maggie suggested, "Isabella, let's go downstairs. I'll have Ariel cut some fruit."
"Sure," Isabella replied, glancing toward Fiorello's study.
Maggie carefully made her way downstairs, holding the railing with one hand and her waist with the other.
The stairs were many, and Maggie, being pregnant, moved slowly.
Isabella followed a step behind, thinking, 'What if Maggie falls? Would the baby survive?'
The thought crossed her mind, and her hand reached out.
A gentle push, and Maggie would tumble down the stairs.
Just as Isabella's hand neared Maggie's back, Ariel called from below, "Mrs. Flores, the fruit is ready."
Ariel's voice snapped Isabella out of it. She quickly moved to support Maggie. "Let me help you."
"Thanks," Maggie said, not noticing anything odd.
In the living room, Maggie invited Isabella to eat some fruit and then sat on the sofa.
Isabella felt uneasy. After a bit of fruit, she made an excuse to leave.
Maggie sat for a while when she heard a cup break behind her.
Ariel had accidentally broken a cup.
Ariel quickly cleaned up. "Sorry, Mrs. Flores. I'll clean it up right away. Don't move, so you don't get hurt."
"Ariel, is something bothering you?" Maggie asked, noticing a bruise on Ariel's waist as she squatted to clean up.
"No, just didn't sleep well," Ariel said, pulling her clothes down to cover the bruise and forcing a smile. "I'll get back to work."
In the kitchen, Ariel no longer had to hide her pain. She lifted her clothes to look at the bruise, remembering last night's domestic violence.
In her forties, Ariel had endured years of abuse, hoping her husband would change.
This time, he beat her because she didn't bring home money. He was addicted to gambling and owed $20,000. Her little money wasn't enough to cover the debt.
Collectors were threatening to cut off his hand if the debt wasn't paid.
Her husband pressured her to get the money, threatening to cause trouble at their daughter's workplace if she didn't bring it back in three days.
Ariel was terrified. She could endure anything but couldn't let her daughter's life be disrupted.
She promised to bring the money back in three days, but where would she find $20,000?
Just then, her phone rang. It was Kimberly.
Ariel used to work at the Flores Mansion. After Fiorello and Maggie moved, Fiorello brought her along to take care of Maggie.
Surprised by Kimberly's call, Ariel forced a smile, "Mrs. Kimberly Flores, what can I do for you? Okay, I'll come over right away."
Kimberly arranged to meet Ariel at a nearby café.
Ariel went, unsure why Kimberly wanted to see her. At the café, Kimberly took out a bottle of pills and said, "Give these to Maggie."
"Mrs. Kimberly Flores, what are these?" Ariel asked. "Are they for Maggie's health?"
"These are abortion pills."
