Chapter215 Strategy of Delaying the War
Maggie shook her head, poured a glass of wine, and once again drank it all in one go. "Dulce, the truth cannot be concealed forever. I cannot deceive Fiorello for a lifetime."
"In one's life, everyone could tell lies. You don't need to take it so seriously for a white lie. Fiorello must have told lies, too."
Fiorello, as the CEO of Visionary Futures Group, is all about deception.
Dulce never exposed the truth; as an outsider, it wasn't her place to intervene.
Moreover, Fiorello has been good to Maggie, so this matter requires Fiorello to confess on his own.
From a factual standpoint, Fiorello's concealment of his family situation hasn't had any impact on their marriage.
Maggie was upset and confused, thinking that Dulce was referring to Fiorello deceiving her about the house, so she didn't dwell on it.
"My daughter, I have to find her." Maggie said, "No matter where she is, I must bring her back. I brought her into this world, so I am responsible."
"Maggie, you're being foolish," Dulce strongly objected. "Back then, Arya sent her away because she was afraid of ruining your happiness. If you bring that child back, your relationship with Fiorello will be over."
Families like the Flores family could never accept that Maggie had a child out of wedlock, let alone bring the child back.
Maggie shook her head. "Dulce, I have made up my mind. If Fiorello chooses to leave, then I will accept it calmly. I can't imagine my daughter becoming an orphan, living a difficult life without me protecting her. Will she be scared, hungry, happy, healthy? She's not a little animal; she's my daughter, so I should take responsibility."
Maggie's words left Dulce momentarily speechless.
Maggie had indeed pondered these questions, especially when she thought about Adalia's ordeal, all bruised from Susan's abuse. Maggie wondered if her daughter might also be suffering abuse.
Maggie wondered if her child was alive or dead and where she might be.
Seeing Maggie's stubborn attitude, Dulce advised, "Are you really willing to let go of Fiorello? He is devoted to you; a husband like him is hard to find, Maggie; think about it again. Even if you want to confess, shouldn't you find the child first?"
Dulce thought that Maggie's marriage with Fiorello could continue as long as Maggie couldn't find the child. It might be better to maintain the status quo for now.
Finding the child who was lost four years ago would undoubtedly be extremely difficult, requiring a lot of time and effort. It's not that easy, and maybe as time goes by, Maggie will give up.
Dulce's words made Maggie hesitate. Just the thought of Fiorello made Maggie's heartache.
Maggie couldn't bear it either.
Seeing Maggie's hesitation, Dulce seized the opportunity. "Maggie, this isn't deceiving Fiorello. Wait until you find the child, then confess. If you do it rashly, Fiorello won't believe you. Don't be impulsive, think about it carefully."
Maggie remained silent for a long time. The most urgent task now was indeed to find that child.
"Dulce, do you really have no clue about the whereabouts of that child?"
Dulce shook her head. "It was Arya who took her away back then; I have no idea. Now that Arya is injured and in the hospital, you should hold off for now."
Maggie suddenly realized the magnitude of this matter, and her heart was unable to calm down for a long time. If it hadn't been for Arya's leg injury, she would have confronted Arya as soon as she came out from the hospital.
That was Maggie's daughter; how could Arya abandon her without Maggie's consent?
Maggie kept drinking, not having a high tolerance; she soon passed out after a few drinks.
Maggie's behavior after getting drunk was unseemly and different from her usual self. Dulce was worried that if Maggie went back in this state, she might reveal something, so she took Maggie back to her own home.
After finishing his social engagements, Fiorello returned home and found Maggie wasn't there. He called Maggie, and Dulce answered.
"Maggie is already asleep here with me. Let her wake up and go back tomorrow."
Fiorello replied succinctly, "Send me the address, and I'll come to pick up Maggie."
