Chapter 489 Beginning to Suspect Isabella

Isabella walked in, and Fiorello was caught off guard. They'd never really crossed paths before, so seeing her here was a shock.

Isabella was surprised to find Fiorello alone in the room. She thought, 'Perfect! Some one-on-one time.'

With a thermos in hand and a smile on her face, she said, "Mr. Flores, how are you feeling? I made some chicken soup. It's good for you. Want to try some?"

Fiorello just stared at her, not saying a word or touching the soup.

Sensing the awkwardness, Isabella sat down. "I'm here for Maggie. She couldn't make it and asked me to check on you. It's sad to see you two like this."

She brought up Maggie on purpose, knowing it was the only way to get through to him.

Fiorello's eyes flickered. "How is she?"

"She's really worried about you," Isabella lied, then cautiously asked, "Is there really no chance for you and Maggie?"

Fiorello's voice got deeper. "That was the deal to save her. Maybe if she hadn't met me, none of this would have happened."

Isabella felt a bit relieved. "You still love her, don't you?"

Fiorello stayed silent, pressing his lips together. If he didn't love her, why would he have hurt himself to make things right for Maggie?

His silence said it all.

Isabella looked at the sad Fiorello and felt sorry for him.

"Mr. Flores, things will get better. Try some of the chicken soup I made, so I can tell Maggie you did." She handed him the soup.

Thinking of Maggie, Fiorello took the soup. "Thanks."

He took a few sips, and even that made Isabella happy.

Just then, a nurse came in with his meds. Isabella quickly poured some water and handed him a tissue after he took the pills.

The new nurse, not knowing the situation, assumed they were a couple. "Mr. Flores, your girlfriend is really sweet."

Isabella's heart skipped a beat, and she looked at Fiorello.

His face turned cold. "You misunderstood. She's not my girlfriend."

The nurse apologized, "I'm sorry, I misunderstood. Mr. Flores, you need to rest after your meds. If you need anything, just press the call button."

Fiorello replied, "Thank you."

Feeling awkward, the nurse left.

Isabella was about to say something when Fiorello cut her off. "Ms. Adams, please leave."

He used to call her Isabella, but not anymore.

Since he and Maggie were done, he wanted to keep his distance from Isabella too.

Isabella got the hint. "Alright, I'll go. If there's any news about Maggie, I'll let you know."

"No need," Fiorello said coldly. "Maggie and I are divorced. I don't want to know about her. Ms. Adams, you don't need to tell me anything."

Isabella was confused. 'Is he really cutting ties this fast?'

"Then I'll go," she said, having no reason to stay. She was just glad to have spent some time with him and to see him awake.

She wasn't rushing things; she had all the time in the world.

Over the next few days, Fiorello stayed in the hospital to recover, with Eleanor by his side, taking care of him.

Jenny wanted to check on him but didn't dare show her face. She was too scared to be seen by Fiorello.

Isabella, pretending to be there for Maggie, visited the hospital a couple more times, bringing homemade soup, but Fiorello never touched it again.

She also tried to get on Eleanor's good side but got nowhere. As Maggie's cousin, Eleanor didn't think much of her and didn't have any warm feelings either.

This left Isabella feeling pretty frustrated. She resented her connection to Maggie, but without it, she had no reason to be near Fiorello.

During Fiorello's recovery, Maggie would sneak in every night. She didn't stay long, just stood at the door, watching him while Eleanor slept.

She only showed up in the dead of night, making sure no one saw her.

One night, as she was leaving, Holden spotted her but pretended not to notice.

Seeing Fiorello getting better each day, Maggie started to feel more at ease.

She also moved Adalia to a new school, and Arya went back to her old job at the hotel, doing cleaning work.

Maggie was still recovering, and Arya took over all the chores, leaving her to just handle Adalia.

Maggie needed a month of rest after her miscarriage, or she'd risk getting sick.

Before, the conditions at the police station were good. Fiorello had made sure everything Maggie used was warm, from the washing water to the food, which was nourishing.

Life seemed to be getting better.

On the day of Kimberly's funeral, Maggie was aware but chose not to attend. Amidst the rain, she dropped Adalia off at school and then hailed a cab to Isabella's café.

When she got out, she stood at the entrance and looked up at the sign, Soulful Harbor Cafe, feeling a weird vibe.

Maybe it was Dulce's hint, or just a woman's intuition, but looking at the name again, Maggie felt it had something to do with Fiorello.

She walked into the café. It was work hours, so it was pretty empty, just a few tables of people talking business.

"Welcome," the server greeted her with a smile. "What would you like to drink?"

"I'm looking for your boss," Maggie smiled back. "Is she here? I'm her cousin."

"She's in the office upstairs. Want me to take you up?"

"No, thanks. I know the way." Maggie headed upstairs, familiar with the place since she had designed the interior.

When she got to the second floor, she heard Isabella on the phone.

"Mom, I've finalized the divorce with James. We're done. If the Andersons want to cause trouble, call the cops. What are we afraid of? If they want to sue me, let them. They probably don't have the money or energy to fight me now. I'm single and can be with whoever I want."

Standing at the door, Maggie frowned. She hadn't heard about Isabella's divorce before.

She couldn't help but wonder, 'When did Isabella finalize the divorce?'

Maggie remembered Isabella wanting to drag things out with the Anderson family to avoid a bad reputation. What made her change her mind?
