Chapter 696 Prove Adalia's innocence

Eleanor was easily swayed, and she felt sorry for her two grandchildren, so she couldn't help but worry.

Eleanor even thought to herself about how to send Adalia away, to keep her away from her grandchildren.

Seeing that Eleanor was considering her words, Vanessa added, "I'm just afraid she's a child who can't be raised properly, Eleanor. You should be more cautious."

Others chimed in, "Vanessa is right. Children do compete for affection, especially in families like ours, where the competition is even more intense."

"I suddenly remembered a news story I saw last time. A four-year-old girl tricked her two-year-old sister and pushed her off the balcony. Everyone thought it was an accidental fall, but the surveillance footage showed it was the older sister who did it."

"Kids these days mature early and can be quite malicious."

"Eleanor, you should send that child away as soon as possible. After all, she's not your biological granddaughter, and she's mute. What's the point of keeping her?"

As they were egging her on, a cold voice suddenly interrupted.

"The Flores family's affairs are none of your concern, ladies. Who dares to send away my daughter, Fiorello's daughter?"

Everyone turned to see Fiorello with a cold expression, his face like ice, and no one dared to speak.

Seeing Fiorello's grim face, Eleanor felt a bit guilty. "Fiorello, everyone was just chatting casually. No one is planning to send Adalia away."

Fiorello walked in with his long strides, his sharp gaze fixed on Vanessa.

Vanessa didn't dare meet Fiorello's eyes and looked down guiltily.

Fiorello coldly instructed the bodyguards behind him, "You two, escort Vanessa out."

"Yes, Mr. Flores."

The bodyguards immediately stepped forward to "escort" Vanessa out.

Vanessa was bewildered, "Mr. Flores, what's going on? Why?"

Eleanor quickly tried to mediate, "Fiorello, Vanessa is here to celebrate with the two babies. She's a guest; how can you kick her out?"

Vanessa was terrified of being kicked out. In such a setting, if the Flores family threw her out, she would lose face, be unable to hold her head up in social circles, and her husband's family would certainly be affected. Worse, her husband's family might blame her and kick her out of the Baker family.

She could already sense the schadenfreude from the other ladies present. Vanessa felt very embarrassed and forced a smile, "Mr. Flores, I misspoke. I just saw Adalia spill water on your younger daughter, so I said a few more words. I was just concerned about your younger daughter."

Fiorello's eyes were sharp, and his tone was icy. "So you're saying it was Adalia who spilled the water on Katie?"

"Yes, I saw it with my own eyes," Vanessa insisted.

Fiorello sneered, "There's a surveillance camera there. Let's check the footage and see who really spilled the water."

There was indeed a surveillance camera on the wall, directly facing where Eleanor and the others were sitting.

Hearing about checking the footage, Vanessa panicked, her hands and feet starting to tremble.

Eleanor whispered, "Fiorello, there's no need to make a big deal out of this. Why check the footage and let outsiders laugh at us?"

"My daughter will not be wronged or slandered by anyone."

Fiorello was adamant about checking the footage.

He originally just came to take a look and didn't intend to make a scene or embarrass these ladies. He didn't need to argue with them.

But hearing these women talk nonsense made Fiorello very angry. If he didn't stand up for Adalia, then anyone could bully her in the future.

The commotion attracted some attention, and Vanessa's husband, Maurice Baker, hurried over when he heard his wife was in trouble.

Maurice immediately saw his pale-faced wife in the crowd and the icy Fiorello.

The atmosphere in the side hall was very tense, and no one dared to make a sound.

Maurice quickly signaled to his wife, asking what was going on.

Vanessa was almost in tears. Fiorello projected the surveillance footage onto the big screen, in high definition, for everyone to see.

The footage showed Vanessa knocking over the water cup, and then Adalia reaching out to catch it but failing.

Everyone realized they had misunderstood Adalia. The water cup was knocked over by Vanessa, who must have known it but blamed a child.

When the incident happened, Vanessa was the first to blame Adalia, saying, "You child, how could you spill the water?"

That one sentence made everyone believe it was Adalia's fault.

Adalia was mute and couldn't speak. Her gestures were not understood, so she clenched her fists in frustration.
