Chapter 55 Trouble with the Law

The concern Maggie showed for Fiorello made him feel great. He took her hand and said, "Relax, it's okay. If we really have to go to court, I have friends who are lawyers. Today is our first time going to the movies, let's not let someone irrelevant spoil it."

Worrying about it now couldn't change what had happened.

This was the first time Fiorello had taken her to the movies, and he certainly didn't want it to be a downer.

Maggie nodded and went in with Fiorello, thinking to herself that if Samwise really did sue Fiorello after the movie, she would have to talk to Samwise herself. She couldn't let Fiorello bear the consequences of something she'd started.

With a big company like Visionary Futures Group, if an employee got involved in a lawsuit and it blew up, it would definitely affect Fiorello's career prospects.

Fiorello led Maggie to their seats, and she realized that, without being fully aware of it, she and Fiorello had grown closer and holding hands had become a habit.

Fiorello had chosen a romantic film, and most of the audience was made up of couples.

The dim lighting of the movie theater made it easy for couples to be a little affectionate without being noticed, like holding hands or sharing a quick kiss—such things were common.

In that atmosphere, Maggie got a taste of the sweetness of a romantic date and felt excited and hopeful for what was to come.

Like the other boyfriends there, Fiorello was holding the popcorn for Maggie and had freed up his other hand to hold hers. He liked holding Maggie's hand; it was soft and smooth.

As the movie started, the screen depicted a couple kissing passionately in a rental room for a lingering ten seconds or more, which was enough to make Maggie's cheeks flush with embarrassment.

Maggie glanced surreptitiously at Fiorello. He was looking straight ahead with a solemn expression, betraying no reaction, yet his grip on her hand inadvertently tightened.

Maggie quickly averted her gaze as the movie scene shifted. It was hard to tell whether the theater was just too warm or if it was nerves, but her palms were sweating nonstop. She felt too embarrassed to ask Fiorello to let go, so they kept holding hands.

As a romance film, there were more than a few suggestive scenes, which left Maggie’s cheeks burning by the end, her heart racing without a moment’s rest throughout the movie.

All Maggie could do to distract herself was by munching on popcorn and sipping on coffee. The movie was a real torture to sit through.

For Fiorello, it was torture, too.

He hadn't expected the film to be filled with so many intimate scenes. He should’ve planned for them to watch it at home instead of at the theater.

During their date, Samwise had already gone to the hospital to have his injuries assessed and had filed a police report. He just couldn't let it go.

As Fiorello and Maggie stepped out of the theater after the movie, two police officers approached Fiorello.

"Someone has accused you of assault. Please come with us," one officer stated.

Seeing the police officers, Maggie panicked. She couldn't believe that Samwise had sunk so low—despite being the instigator, he had the nerve to call the cops.

"Officer, this is all a misunderstanding…" Maggie pleaded urgently, "It was the other man who started the trouble, my husband was just protecting me."

"The fact remains that an assault took place. The victim has been classified with a second-degree injury, and we have surveillance footage as evidence. Adults have to be accountable for their actions," the officer replied.

"Officer, please..."

Maggie tried to implore further, but Fiorello interrupted, "Maggie, go home. It’s okay, I’ll go with them. I’ll be back soon."

Worried sick but without other options, Maggie could only watch as Fiorello followed the officers to the patrol car.

After the police car left, Maggie hurriedly called Dulcinea. The only person she could think of for help was Dulcinea.

When Dulcinea heard that Fiorello had been taken away by the police, she thought it was a joke. "Maggie, how could Fiorello be taken away by the police? That's impossible."

"It's true," retorted Maggie, her voice laced with concern. "That despicable Samwise, he sued Fiorello because Fiorello knocked out one of his teeth. The hospital's report indicates a second-degree severe injury. Will Fiorello go to jail? Dulce, do you have any lawyer friends?"

She knew she needed to find a good lawyer to represent Fiorello.

After Dulcinea learned the full story, she was furious at Samwise's actions.

"Maggie, go home and don't do anything. Fiorello will be back soon," Dulcinea assured her with a confidence meant to ease her friend's worry.

'This Samwise doesn't stand a chance against the Flores family.

This isn't the time to worry about Fiorello. The person who should be worried was Samwise.

Samwise has to pick on Fiorello of all people.' Dulcinea thought in her heart.
