Chapter 674 Parenting Concepts

Fiorello changed his clothes and, under the doctor's guidance, went to the ICU.

Seeing Maggie with a respirator and an IV in her hand, Fiorello felt a stabbing pain in his heart, and even his steps became heavy.

Fiorello walked to Maggie's side. The unconscious Maggie had risked her life to give birth to two children, fulfilling both of their wishes.

Fiorello kissed Maggie's hand tenderly, his voice hoarse, "Maggie, the baby and I are waiting for you to wake up."

He had a thousand words to say, but his throat felt choked. He felt guilty no matter what he said. If he could take Maggie's place in suffering, he would do so without hesitation.

Maggie, pale-faced, lay quietly on the hospital bed, still unconscious.

If it weren't for Dylan, Maggie would have died today.

The Flores family was well aware of Maggie's sacrifices. Maggie had risked her life to give the Flores family a pair of healthy babies.

Of course, the Flores elders also knew that Maggie insisted on having the children not only because she loved Fiorello but also because of Kimberly.

Some grudges can't be resolved with words. The entanglements of love and hate, right and wrong, are too complex. What Maggie did was just to make everyone feel a bit better and to help them forget Kimberly's death.

Joseph and Holden also rushed to the hospital. They had gone home last night and weren't informed. It wasn't until they arrived in the morning that they learned how dangerous Maggie's situation had been.

Joseph, holding his little grandson, said, "Maggie really went through a lot this time. It wasn't easy for her."

Eleanor, holding her little granddaughter and feeding her formula, had heavy dark circles under her eyes and looked quite haggard after a sleepless night.

Eleanor said with heartache, "Indeed, it wasn't easy at all. Last night, the doctor issued several critical condition notices. There was an amniotic fluid embolism and a uterine rupture. These two children were born at the cost of Maggie's life."

As she spoke, Eleanor said to her little granddaughter in her arms, "You must be good to your mom in the future. She went through a lot to give birth to you."

Joseph asked, "Where's Fiorello? Why don't I see him?"

"He went to the ICU to see Maggie." As Eleanor finished speaking, Arya and Dulce arrived with Adalia.

Adalia didn't understand how dangerous her mother's situation was. She was happy to see her little brother and sister and reached out to touch her brother's hand.

Eleanor quickly said, "Adalia, you can't touch them. You haven't washed your hands. Your brother was just born and has a weak immune system. You need to disinfect your hands first."

Eleanor's warning scared Adalia a bit. She felt she had done something wrong and withdrew her hand in fear, her smile fading.

Arya and Dulce saw this and felt a bit sad but didn't say anything.

The two babies were so small and had weak immune systems, which was true. Eleanor's concern was understandable.

Dulce pulled Adalia to her side. Arya, who hadn't slept all night, was also very tired and worried about Maggie's safety. Seeing her granddaughter and little grandson made her feel a bit better.

Arya leaned in to look at her little granddaughter and then at her little grandson. She wanted to hold them, but Eleanor didn't hand over the little granddaughter to Arya.

Joseph noticed Arya's desire. It was normal for a grandmother to want to hold her grandchildren.

"Arya, come, hold your little grandson. He looks a lot like Fiorello when he was a baby." Joseph smiled and handed the little grandson to Arya.

Arya smiled and reached out to hold him, but Eleanor took out some disinfectant and said nervously, "Wait, spray this first."

Eleanor sprayed Arya's body and hands a few times with the disinfectant, saying, "There are a lot of germs in the hospital. It's safer to disinfect."

Arya felt a bit uncomfortable but didn't show it. She smiled and said, "We should be careful. It's necessary."

After Arya was sprayed with disinfectant, she finally got to hold her little grandson.

The newborn baby was small, and his skin wasn't very good, with a bit of jaundice. It wasn't serious enough to need phototherapy. With more feeding and excretion, it would get better.

"He's so handsome. He'll grow up to be tall and handsome like Fiorello."

Arya smiled and praised him, taking out two crosses from her bag.

One for each grandchild, Arya smiled and said, "These are crosses from Grandma. May God bless you to grow up healthy."

Seeing what Arya took out, Eleanor quickly asked, "Arya, what's inside these?"

Arya didn't think much and smiled, "These are crosses."

Eleanor said, "Arya, these things can't be worn by the children. They have too many germs."

Hearing this, Arya felt a bit embarrassed and didn't know if she should give them.

Joseph signaled to Eleanor, indicating that her words might make Arya overthink.

Dulce couldn't stand it anymore. Eleanor was too overprotective of the children. She said, "Eleanor, you can't raise children too delicately. The more delicate they are, the more fragile they'll be."

Dulce took the crosses from Arya's hand and, ignoring Eleanor's expression, put them on the two children, smiling, "They look so nice. Maggie risked her life to give birth to these two beautiful children. I'm your godmother. Nice to meet you."

Dulce didn't disinfect and directly took the baby from Arya's arms. Eleanor wanted to say something but was stopped by Joseph, so she didn't say anything.

Dulce and Arya, with Adalia, stayed in the ward for a while before leaving. Dulce was going to take Arya and Adalia back to rest. They couldn't all stay at the hospital.

Back at Sunset Hills, Arya let Adalia play with her toys.

Arya sat on the living room sofa, deep in thought. Thinking about how Eleanor had stopped Adalia, she realized that Adalia was not the Flores family's biological granddaughter.

Dulce knew what Arya was thinking and said, "Arya, don't overthink it. If Eleanor says anything in the future, just ignore it."

"I don't mind, but I'm worried Adalia will feel wronged." Arya sighed.

Dulce also thought about it. Adalia wasn't Fiorello's biological daughter. Eleanor and Joseph used to like her a lot, but now that they had two biological grandchildren, Adalia would surely lose favor.

Dulce comforted, "Adalia doesn't live at the Flores Manor. She lives here with Maggie and Fiorello. Fiorello shouldn't be biased."

Arya said, "Children are always closer to their biological parents."

Adalia was happy to see her little brother and sister born, but she didn't even get to touch them. Arya felt heartbroken seeing the disappointment in her eyes.

Dulce also couldn't accept Eleanor's behavior at the hospital, saying, "Maggie's mother-in-law used to be nice. But now that the children are born, her attitude has changed. Children aren't that fragile."

Eleanor's words and actions didn't consider others' feelings at all.
