Chapter 180 Making Moves Behind the Scenes

Seeing that, Maggie felt uneasy.
"Adalia, I brought you some snacks. Take them, and don't let your mom see them," Maggie said, handing the snacks to Adalia. If you're hungry, eat some. If you encounter any trouble, make sure to come to Unit 802 in Building Three to find me, okay?"
Adalia held the snacks, looked at Maggie with big eyes, and nodded.
Maggie was curious to know if Adalia truly understood or if she was just being quiet.
She looked at the bruises on Adalia's ankles, wishing she could take Adalia away.
If Adalia continued to stay in this home, her life would surely be ruined.
Susan's voice came from inside. "That brat, who knocked on the door? Did you sneak out again? I told you to watch Tommy; where did you run off to this time?"
Adalia quickly closed the door and went back to check on Tommy.
She hid all the snacks.
Susan was playing cards, so she ignored Adalia and Tommy. She peeked and saw the two kids in the living room before continuing her card game.
Adalia played with a tambourine to amuse Tommy. Seeing Tommy giggle, she smiled, too.
Only when she was with Tommy could she take a break.
But if Tommy cried, she would be punished.
Adalia’s dad once told her that they were a family, and her mom was just short-tempered. So even if she wanted to go back to Maggie, she didn't dare.
This was her home, not Maggie's.
And from the conversation between Arya and Maggie in the kitchen last time, Adalia overheard part of it.
If Maggie adopted her, it would bring trouble and burdens to Maggie.
Adalia didn't want to be a burden for Maggie.
After seeing Adalia, Maggie also felt down.
When she returned to the company, she called Fiorello and briefed him on Adalia's situation.
"I think we need to find a way to get Adalia to school."
If Adalia went to school, Susan wouldn't have the chance to mistreat her.
Fiorello was also concerned about Adalia, saying, "I'll ask around at the kindergarten across from Cityhomes West to solve Adalia's schooling issue."
"Alright, if Susan refuses to pay the tuition, we'll cover it," Maggie said. "I can't rest easy until Adalia’s problem is settled."
Fiorello felt the same way.
Adalia's situation was like a thorn, pricking at them from time to time and causing discomfort and concern.
"Don't worry. Leave this to me."
After hanging up, Fiorello called William, "Go to the Orange Blossom Kindergarten across from Cityhomes West and handle Adalia's enrollment. Let the principal tell Adalia's parents that the tuition is waived."
"Alright, Mr. Flores. I'll go now."
Fiorello added, "If Susan refuses to send Adalia to school, ask the police for help."
"Understood."
Dealing with someone like Susan required the intervention of the police.
Maggie felt relieved after the call. She started working with Jass, who had arranged for her to be an assistant. However, as the newly promoted chief, many employees still didn't respect her.
No one believed in her, and the tasks she assigned were met with indifference and laziness.
Without cooperation from her team, Maggie found it hard to carry out her work.
She knew she couldn't rush things or be too forceful, as that would only breed more resistance.
In the following week, Maggie faced immense work pressure, with almost everything in the design department falling on her shoulders.
Despite Emily and Jass's support, the results were limited.
One person's efforts were ultimately limited.
Fortunately, Maggie's design skills were there, allowing her to handle clients and produce satisfactory designs even with a lackluster team.
She was willing to work harder if needed.
Engaged in work she loved, Maggie felt excited, as if she had endless energy.
With Adalia's schooling matter resolved by Fiorello, she felt even more at ease, and the challenges from her subordinates didn't bother her.
Her colleagues in the design department also wanted to challenge Maggie's authority, reminding her that being the chief was challenging.
On that day, Jass approached Maggie. "Ms. Miller, Ms. Reed is looking for a traditional hair accessory technique that our company doesn't have. It's a method used by palace craftsmen to make hair accessories for nobles."
Maggie asked, "Can someone else do it?"
Jass pondered over it for a while. "There's one person, a designer who was pushed out by Selena before, but I heard she retired."
"I'll go find her myself," Maggie said. "Do you have her address?"
"A few days ago, I heard from another friend that she's currently vacationing at Cloud Top Mountain."
"Cloud Top Mountain," Maggie murmured the name, "Alright, I'll go seek her advice now."
Maggie headed to the underground parking lot, walked towards her car, and called Fiorello to inform him that she would go back home late as she needed to go to Cloud Top Mountain.
After the call, Maggie looked up and thought she saw a figure moving to the side.
Without much thought, she got into her car, started it, and drove towards Cloud Top Mountain.
As her car departed, a figure emerged from behind a pillar, gazing malevolently in the direction Maggie's car had left.
