Chapter 448 He Sheds Tears for the Child

Maggie stared at her flat belly, her hand shaking like a leaf, voice all raspy. "Baby."

A gut-wrenching howl made everyone outside the ward jump.

Fiorello barged in, saw Maggie was awake, and rushed over, wrapping her up in his arms. "Honey."

"Ah!" Maggie let out a low growl, tears streaming down her face, gripping Fiorello's hands like a lifeline. "The baby is gone, Fiorello, where is the baby, let me see."

Fiorello rubbed her back, trying to soothe her. "Maggie, I'm so sorry."

Maggie cried, clutching Fiorello's arm, her face a mess of tears. "Where is our baby, Fiorello, let me see, just once."

Fiorello couldn't let her see the five-month-old baby. It was already formed, and Maggie would lose it.

"Honey, we'll have more kids in the future." Fiorello's voice was rough, hiding his own pain as he tried to comfort her.

Maggie's heart sank, overwhelmed with grief, her body shaking with sobs, her cries echoing through the hospital.

Maggie cried, shaking her head. "Fiorello, someone wanted to hurt our baby. Last night I got a text warning me to watch my belly, and today this happens. As soon as you left, someone went after our baby. Isn't that weird? There must be something wrong with the food. It happened after lunch. Did the doctor find out why I was bleeding?"

The hospital was still figuring out the cause, and it was the first time Fiorello heard about the warning text.

A flash of anger crossed Fiorello's face, his brows knitting together. "Give me the number that sent the message. I'll have someone look into it right away. I'll also get the food checked. If someone hurt our baby, I'll make them pay."

Maggie's phone was at home, so Fiorello had Brian go get it and bring Ariel for questioning, collecting all the food Maggie had eaten for testing.

After calming Maggie down a bit, Fiorello stepped out, letting Arya stay with her. Isabella was still at the hospital and asked, "How's Maggie?"

It had been an hour since Maggie's surgery ended.

Maggie woke up after the anesthesia wore off. Eleanor and Joseph arrived just in time, bringing in the best specialists to save Maggie's uterus.

Fiorello had just rushed back from Crystal Peaks and hadn't had time to look into Maggie's bleeding.

Fiorello didn't tell Isabella about Maggie's condition, just thanked her and told her she could go home, no need to stay.

After that, Fiorello went to find the doctor who did Maggie's surgery.

In the doctor's office, they found out why Maggie was bleeding. When the doctor handed Fiorello a test report, his face went cold. "Abortion pills?"

"Yes," the doctor said, "We found abortion pill components in her blood, and the dose was high. She had a weak constitution, which led to the bleeding. She was brought in too late, missing the best time for rescue. It's very unfortunate."

Thinking of what Maggie had said and seeing the test results, Fiorello's face turned dark, gripping the test report tightly.

Maggie couldn't have taken the pills herself, so it had to be Ariel, who handled her food.

Just then, a doctor handling the baby walked in. "Mr. Flores, the baby has been cleaned up. Would you like to see?"

"Yes," Fiorello replied.

It was his child; how could he not look?

Fiorello followed the doctor to the morgue to see the baby.

A five-month-old fetus, weighing about a pound, so tiny, in a little box. Its hands and feet were formed, and its facial features were set, just like Maggie had hoped, with delicate features, looking like Fiorello.

It was a boy.

Seeing the baby's body in the box, Fiorello's eyes welled up. A man in his thirties who had never shed a tear, cried.
