Chapter 769 Staying with Life
Maggie curled up under the covers, and at some point, it had started raining outside.
Maggie couldn't sleep; her thoughts were chaotic, and her heart was a mix of emotions.
She just wanted to lie in his arms and sleep peacefully.
"Fiorello!" Maggie whispered his name.
Lunaris.
A flash of lightning and thunder tore through the night sky.
Fiorello woke up with a start, feeling inexplicably anxious.
He clutched his chest; it seemed like he had heard someone calling him.
Fiorello got up and went to the bathroom to wash his face. He had already bought a ticket to Cyberland, departing at 2 PM the next day.
He couldn't sleep that night. After washing his face, he started packing his luggage, waiting for dawn.
He was eager to go to Cyberland.
As time ticked by, at noon, Fiorello was ready to head to the airport when Melissa came running in a panic: "Fiorello, something happened. Uncle Desmond was in a car accident and was taken to the hospital. You need to go see him right away."
Hearing about Desmond's accident, Fiorello frowned, "Which hospital?"
"General Hospital," Melissa said anxiously. "The hospital just called me. Uncle Desmond is in the emergency room."
Fiorello put down his luggage and hurried to the hospital with Melissa.
He was now Ryan without memories, Desmond's son. Even though there was some evidence making him doubt his identity, without final confirmation, he was still Ryan.
When he woke up, he saw Melissa, and Desmond had always taken care of him. He couldn't just ignore Desmond.
At the hospital.
Outside the emergency room, there were also the family members of the person responsible for the accident. The driver was also injured and was being treated inside.
The driver's wife, who was sitting in the back seat of the car, was not seriously hurt. Worried about her husband, she anxiously waited outside the emergency room.
The police arrived, and the woman urgently said, "It wasn't my husband's fault. The old man wasn't watching where he was going and walked into the car. My husband hit the brakes but couldn't stop in time. It was a green light."
Fiorello arrived just in time to hear the woman's conversation with the police.
The main cause of the accident was Desmond running a red light. The driver was driving normally and hit him.
After the driver swerved, the car hit the guardrail, the front of the car was totaled, and the driver was also injured and hospitalized.
The doctor came out and asked, "Who is Desmond's family? Is Desmond's family here?"
Fiorello stepped forward, "I am. How is my dad?"
The doctor said, "The artery in his left leg was severed, and the bleeding won't stop. The bone in his left leg is also crushed. We can only amputate to save his life. The family needs to sign quickly."
Hearing about the amputation, Melissa was also shocked. She had only suggested that Desmond find a way to get hurt to keep Fiorello from leaving, not expecting such severe consequences.
However, this outcome would indeed keep Fiorello here.
With such a major surgery, Fiorello definitely couldn't leave.
Fiorello signed the papers, and the doctor immediately went back in to continue the surgery.
The driver's wife, hearing about the amputation, was also scared of getting into trouble. Her face turned pale; they couldn't afford the medical bills.
The woman walked up to Fiorello, "This really isn't our fault. Your dad walked into the car. My husband is also injured. Let's just call it even. The police said it was your dad who ran the red light. We really can't afford the medical bills."
Fiorello was annoyed by the woman's nagging and said, "Shut up."
He hated it when women cried and complained.
Melissa said, "We'll see how this is settled later. For now, let's not talk about it. We can afford the medical bills."
Hearing this, the woman felt somewhat relieved.
The surgery continued for five hours, ending at 5 PM. Fiorello had already missed his flight.
He couldn't leave.
Melissa felt relieved.
Desmond's life was temporarily saved, and he was sent to the ICU. Fiorello went to see him, and Melissa received a call from Timothy and stepped out of the hospital.
Timothy asked, "Melissa, what happened? Desmond was fine. How did he get into a car accident?"
"Because he's stupid. I just told him to find a way to get hurt to keep Fiorello here. Who knew he'd crash the car himself? Now his left leg is amputated to save his life," Melissa said coldly. "I paid for all the surgery costs, so I've done right by him."
