Chapter 754 Not Allowing Maggie to Get Close to the Child
The Holmes family was furious with Francis, and the atmosphere at the dinner table became tense.
Brianna was too scared to speak, and Wendy signaled Brianna to go back to her room and not to get involved in the adults' matters.
Seeing the Holmes family bullying Francis, how could Imogen stand by?
Imogen said, "Neil, Elara, stop pressuring them. They're young, and besides, Wendy wasn't a virgin. My son is the one at a loss here. Francis doesn't even have a girlfriend, and I heard he was drunk. You can't bully him like this. My son has supported you for so many years. What, do you really want him to keep supporting you forever?"
Imogen stood up to defend her son.
Wendy was so angry that she was on the verge of tears. Every word Imogen said was mocking them, but it was also the truth.
Neil slammed the table in anger, "We're taking advantage of Francis? Imogen, have some conscience. Your son slept with my daughter-in-law. My son sacrificed himself to save your son. We lost our son. What, did he save the wrong person? Did he save someone who doesn't know how to be grateful?"
Francis frowned; Edward's death was a knot in his heart.
Imogen argued back, "Who asked your son to save him? My son was wearing a bulletproof vest. Even if your son hadn't shielded him, my son would have been fine. And I heard that your son wasn't even supposed to be on that mission. Why did he insist on going? I think it was his own fault, and now you want my son to take responsibility. Your whole family is ganging up to deceive my son."
Imogen's inadvertent words revealed the true intentions of the Holmes family.
The Holmes family was flustered, each of them too angry to speak.
Just as Francis was about to say something, Imogen suddenly felt weak, her vision blurred, and she collapsed to the ground.
The drug had taken effect, and Imogen's emotional agitation had accelerated its impact.
"Mom," Francis exclaimed in shock, quickly helping Imogen up and rushing her to the hospital.
The Holmes family was also frightened. They only intended to drug the two into unconsciousness. Who knew it would lead to an argument and then a collapse? If they took her to the hospital, wouldn't it expose everything?
Elara urged Wendy, "You should go with them and make sure Francis doesn't find out."
It was late at night, and Maggie, exhausted from a day's work, returned home.
Katie was already asleep. After checking on her, Maggie went to Eleanor's room to see Nate.
Recently, Eleanor had been taking Nate to sleep in her room.
The door was open, and Maggie called out from the doorway. Getting no response, she walked in.
Eleanor was holding Nate in one arm and a photo of Fiorello as a child in the other, crying, "Nate, this is your daddy when he was little. Look, isn't he cute? You look just like your daddy."
Hearing this, Maggie felt a pang of sadness.
Since Fiorello's accident, Maggie had been numbing herself with alcohol or work, keeping herself busy to avoid thinking about her husband.
"Mom," Maggie walked over.
"You're back," Eleanor quickly wiped her tears and, smelling the alcohol on Maggie, said, "You reek of alcohol again. Go take a shower before you get close to the baby. Remember, don't let the baby smell the alcohol on you."
Maggie had indeed been drinking. She had wanted to hold Nate, but hearing this, she refrained.
"Okay, I'll go wash up in a bit," Maggie said, teasing Nate, "Baby, did you miss Mommy?"
Although Maggie was busy, the babies saw her more often than before. With their blood connection, the babies were now more affectionate towards Maggie.
Nate happily reached out to be held by Maggie, but Eleanor pulled him back a bit, saying, "Nate, Mommy smells like alcohol. Let's not let Mommy hold you. Grandma will take you to see your sister."
