Chapter 776 Where the Heart Goes, Where You Are
Maggie put on the coat from the sofa and said, "We don't need to deal with Michael; Donald will handle him. By now, Michael might not even be in Cyberland. If I'm right, Donald will contact me either today or tomorrow."
Just as she finished speaking, Maggie's phone rang. It was Donald calling.
Maggie showed the caller ID to Caleb and smiled, "Here he is."
Maggie's every move was captivating.
Caleb was stunned by her beauty and quickly regained his composure, saying, "Impressive."
Smart and beautiful women were incredibly charming.
Caleb admired Maggie but didn't dare to have any other thoughts.
He knew very well that Maggie belonged to Fiorello.
Whether Fiorello was around or not, this woman was not someone he could have.
Maggie didn't notice Caleb's reaction. She answered the phone, and Donald's voice came through, apologetic, "Maggie, are you done with work? I'm downstairs at your office. How about dinner tonight? Last night's incident was a complete misunderstanding. It was all Michael's fault for causing trouble and ruining my reputation. I've already dealt with him."
"No time," Maggie said deliberately. "Forget dinner. I don't know what happened with Michael, but I remember very well what you did last night, Donald."
Maggie intentionally distanced herself from the situation. No matter what Donald did to Michael, it had nothing to do with her. She was just a 'victim.'
"Maggie, it was really a misunderstanding. Please don't hold a grudge against me because of this," Donald didn't want to offend Maggie. Not only was she beautiful and smart, but she was also backed by Visionary Futures Group.
Visionary Futures Group hadn't been affected much without Fiorello. With such significant interests at stake, and now that Maggie was a widow, Donald had to make a good impression on her.
Maggie's voice turned cold, "Donald, are you implying that I'm a vengeful person? Given this grudge, there's no need to cooperate on the South Bay project."
"Of course, we need to cooperate," Donald quickly said. "Maggie, I'm sincere. Let's have dinner and finalize the project details. How about I give you an additional two percent of the profits as an apology? I genuinely want to be friends with you."
Hearing this, Maggie was taken aback. Giving up two percent of the profits meant billions of dollars.
Maggie's goal was achieved. She wanted to use this incident to make Donald back down, and he had conceded more than she expected.
Feigning contemplation, Maggie said calmly, "Since Donald is so sincere, let's meet in a bit."
Donald laughed, "I'm right downstairs at your office. You'll see me as soon as you come out the front door."
He had done his homework and knew Maggie was at the office, so he waited at the entrance.
Maggie didn't respond and hung up the phone.
Caleb said, "Maggie, I'll go with you."
"Alright, then you'll have to work overtime tonight," Maggie didn't dare to meet Donald alone.
Downstairs at the office.
Donald stood by his car, looking towards the office entrance.
He had even bought a gift to apologize.
After waiting for about ten minutes, Maggie and Caleb came out.
"Maggie," Donald greeted warmly, "You were startled last night. This is a small token of my apology."
Harold presented a pearl necklace, even larger than the one Eleanor had bought for Maggie.
Maggie didn't accept it and said indifferently, "I appreciate the gesture, but please take it back. Since Donald is giving up two percent of the profits, I can't accept such an expensive gift."
Harold understood. It wasn't about the value; Maggie didn't accept gifts from any man other than Fiorello.
"It was my oversight," Harold said with a smile. "I've already made a reservation. Maggie, would you like to ride in my car?"
"My driver is waiting over there," Maggie said. "I know a restaurant with great food. Would you like to try it, Donald?"
"Sure," Harold replied. "Lead the way, Maggie."
Maggie gave Caleb a look, and they both got into a black car by the roadside.
The driver, Charlie, was already waiting.
After getting in the car, Maggie instructed Charlie to go to the night market, the place where she used to set up a stall on Central Avenue.
She planned to take Harold to eat street food.
She missed Fiorello. The memories of bringing Fiorello to the night market to set up a stall were still vivid. Even after they moved to Sunset Hills, they would come to the night market for snacks and coffee during their free time.
Occasionally, a streak of light would flash across the night sky, as the airport wasn't far away.
The night deepened.
It was almost midnight.
At JFK Airport, a plane landed, and passengers disembarked one after another.
Fiorello walked out alone from the exit and got into a taxi.
The taxi driver asked, "Where to, sir?"
Fiorello didn't know where to go and casually said, "I'm a bit hungry. Where's a good place to eat, somewhere lively?"
"I know just the place, Central Avenue Night Market. It's close by, and it's bustling at this hour."
