Chapter 598 Struggling to Cope
"Maggie, calm down. That's not what I meant at all." Fiorello held Maggie's shoulders with both hands and patiently said, "I just want you to shift your focus and change your current lifestyle. Can't we find Adalia?"
"She will come back, she will." Maggie interrupted Fiorello emotionally, saying, "I thought you would always support me, Fiorello. I can't give up."
"No one is asking you to give up, Maggie. We want a child, and that doesn't conflict with anything. Haven't you always wanted a child?" Fiorello said gently, "You need to have your own life. You can focus on your career and on preparing for pregnancy, but I beg you, don't keep focusing on finding Adalia. We need to look forward."
"I can't do it." Maggie shook her head, "Fiorello, if we have a child, Adalia will gradually be forgotten. No one will remember her. She can't be replaced. You used to like her so much."
"No one will forget Adalia." Fiorello knew what Maggie was afraid of. He hugged her and said, "Maggie, I will always be with you to search, to wait, but I also hope you can pull yourself together. I know it's hard. I hope you can do it for me, for our family."
Maggie closed her eyes in pain, leaning on Fiorello's shoulder. She was really tired and didn't have the energy to argue with him, but she also knew he was doing it for her own good.
As Maggie's emotions gradually calmed down, Fiorello took her to eat, brought her home, and prepared a bath for her.
While Maggie was soaking in the bath, Fiorello sat outside on the balcony smoking. His smoking habit had increased recently, and he could only relieve his frustration by tobacco.
At that moment, Fiorello's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and answered, "What's up?"
The call was from Holden.
"Fiorello, something's wrong. I messed up. The batch of medical equipment we brought in last time has issues." Holden said nervously over the phone, "Patients had adverse reactions after using it, and there were two contracts at the time. I'm suspected of bribery. I'm done for."
"Idiot." Fiorello cursed angrily, "I'll be right there."
After hanging up, Fiorello was about to tell Maggie, but no matter how he called, the bathroom did not answer.
Fiorello quickly pushed the door open and found Maggie completely submerged in the bathtub.
"Maggie!"
Fiorello was shocked and quickly pulled Maggie out of the water, performing emergency aid.
Maggie spat out a mouthful of water and finally regained consciousness, looking dazed, "What happened to me?"
She had no memory of it. She felt tired while soaking and unknowingly fell asleep.
Fiorello, still shaken, hugged Maggie, "I thought you were trying to kill yourself, Maggie. Don't scare me like that."
"I wasn't." Maggie's head was groggy, "I don't know how I fell asleep. Maybe I've been too tired lately."
She had never thought of committing suicide.
If you die, there's nothing left.
Living means there's still hope.
Fiorello kissed Maggie's forehead and said, "Then get some rest. I need to go out for a bit. Holden is in trouble. Maggie, promise me you won't do anything foolish."
"What happened?" Maggie asked nervously.
"I'm not sure of the details. I'll find out when I get there." Fiorello didn't want Maggie to worry too much. He wrapped her in a towel and carried her to the bed, saying, "Wait for me to come back."
Holden's situation was urgent. Before Fiorello could leave, William also called about Holden's issue.
Fiorello instructed Arya to keep an eye on Maggie and hurried out.
Maggie changed into her pajamas and sat on the couch, still feeling tired.
Arya said, "Maggie, you look exhausted. It's late. You should get some rest."
"Okay, I am a bit tired." Maggie felt weak and had no energy to do anything. She lay on the bed, still thinking about why she had slipped into the bathtub.
Maggie fell asleep groggily. In the middle of the night, she woke up from the cold, then felt very hot, sweating all over.
When it was cold, it was bone-chilling. When it was hot, it felt like being roasted by fire, soaking the sheets with sweat.
Maggie had a fever, felt extremely uncomfortable, and was in pain. She couldn't bear it and called out hoarsely, "Mom."
Arya, who was sleeping next door, heard the call and quickly came over. She touched Maggie's forehead and was startled, "You're burning up, Maggie. I'll go get Dr. Mason."
