Chapter 98 Fired

Maggie was under the impression that Selena sought her out due to the previous night's debacle. It appeared that the repercussions of the Quixote family's misfortune had already reached their doorstep. With a sense of trepidation, Maggie ventured into the office. As expected, Selena was perched on her chair, exuding an air of arrogance. "What did you do?" she asked, not bothering to mask her disdain. "You don't need me to remind you of your blunder. It's time for you to head to HR and tender your resignation."Selena was well aware of the Quixote group's downfall.

However, she was of the belief that as long as the Quixote family didn't face bankruptcy, they were not to be trifled with. Their casually sold assets were worth more than what most people could amass in a lifetime. Selena also harbored a personal vendetta against Maggie and saw this as an opportune moment to oust her.Maggie, however, was not incensed. She recognized that she was the architect of her own misfortune. "Selena," she began, her voice steady, "I apologize for the inconvenience I've caused the company. I will rectify this situation. I need to know, though, was the decision to terminate my employment made by the higher-ups or was it your initiative?" The distinction was significant.Selena did not possess the authority to dismiss her. Seeing Maggie maintain her composure in the face of adversity, Selena's expression hardened. "Does it matter?" she retorted. "Your resignation is a courtesy. This morning, I received a call from Ms. Cook. She expressed her dissatisfaction with you and demanded your termination. I've relayed her message to Mr. Bary. You'll be receiving your dismissal letter shortly."Maggie had anticipated this development. Lily had already initiated her retaliation. "I will take responsibility for my actions and promptly submit my resignation," she assured Selena."There's no need," Selena interjected, sliding a prepared resignation letter across the desk to Maggie. Her eyebrow arched in triumph. "Just sign it."Maggie smirked, "You seem quite eager. It's as if you've been waiting to get rid of me for a while now."Selena crossed her arms, her gaze unwavering. "You never belonged in this circle, Maggie. Here's a piece of advice: not everyone is cut out for jewelry design. You certainly aren't. It's time to abandon your fantasies."Maggie inhaled deeply, "I'll keep your advice in mind. And when I walk out of this office, I'm certain our paths will cross again."In life, one must stand up for their dignity. Whether it would make a difference was another matter entirely, but she had to stand her ground.Selena scoffed, "You may talk a big game, but I'll be waiting."With a sense of determination, Maggie signed her resignation letter and exited the office. She began to gather her belongings, preparing to bid the company farewell.Emily, noticing the commotion, inquired, "Maggie, what's going on?""I'm leaving," Maggie replied, her voice filled with resolve. "We'll see each other again someday.""Did that witch Selena fire you? Who does she think she is? Did Mr. Bary sanction this?" Emily was ready to confront Selena."Emily," Maggie interjected, "I appreciate your support, but this time, I'm at fault. Regardless of whether the order came from the company or not, I can't stay. We'll arrange to meet up again."Maggie had mentally prepared herself for this outcome, but the thought of parting ways with Emily was difficult to bear. Emily was the first friend she had made in this place. After packing her belongings, Maggie shared a heartfelt hug with Emily, cast a final glance at her colleagues in the design department, and exited the room. The room fell silent as everyone watched her leave, but no one came to her defense. They too, it seemed, were eager for her departure.Maggie averted her gaze and made her way out of the design department. From her office window, Selena watched Maggie's departure. A sense of satisfaction washed over her as she confirmed Maggie's departure.Minutes after Maggie's exit, the branch's general manager, Jones, arrived. He had come in search of Maggie. Noticing her vacant desk, he casually asked Emily, "Where's Maggie?""She's gone. Selena fired her," Emily responded.Upon hearing this, Jones exclaimed, "Oh no." With a sense of urgency, he rushed off to find Selena.
