Chapter 492 Searching for the Second Killer

Maggie was totally confused. She replayed that day in her head, the day she killed Kimberly in the bathroom.

She saw Kimberly go down with her own eyes, and there was no one else around.

Francis shook his head, "I don't know. I just took a quick look at your case. The murder weapon only has your fingerprints. So who made the second stab? When you left, was Mrs. Flores already dead?"

"I don't know. After she fell, I didn't check. I was really scared." Maggie shook her head. She had stabbed Kimberly, and that was a fact. She also felt like the stab was pretty serious.

Francis thought about the second person who entered the scene according to the records and asked, "Do you know Jenny?"

"Yeah, I know her." Maggie's scalp tingled at the mention of Jenny's name, and she instantly thought of something. "Are you saying Jenny killed Mrs. Flores?"

"I'm not jumping to conclusions without evidence," Francis said, "There's no proof Jenny is the killer, but she's definitely a suspect. She was the one who called the cops and the first to find Mrs. Flores. However, her being a suspect hinges on the assumption that the second stab was indeed made by another person."

Maggie insisted, "I really only stabbed once. I remember it clearly."

Francis smirked. "That means you weren't completely out of control at the time."

Hearing this, Maggie's heart skipped a beat. Fiorello had managed to bail her out by providing a letter of understanding and a mental evaluation, of course, with the pressure from the Flores family's power and status.

If she admitted that her mental state was fine at the time, the case could be reopened.

Maggie couldn't tell if Francis was a friend or foe.

Maggie didn't dare to say more, fearing she might fall into Francis' trap.

Seeing her so cautious, Francis chuckled. "Isn't it a bit late to be on guard now? Maggie, after all these years, you still don't have a sense of caution. Don't worry, what we just talked about won't be known to others. It's just a casual chat between friends. Fiorello had a hard time getting you out. If you're not the killer, I have no reason to frame you."

In Francis' mind, he was almost certain that Maggie wasn't the killer of Kimberly, but he hadn't found evidence of the second killer yet and couldn't act rashly.

Both Maggie and Jenny could be lying. As a police officer, Francis wouldn't let personal feelings influence his judgment.

Maggie realized she had been played by Francis and got a bit angry. She asked, "So, is the second stab real?"

When Maggie first confessed, she straight-up admitted to killing Kimberly. She couldn't remember if the cops had asked her how many times she stabbed or how she answered those details.

Francis thought for a moment. "The second stab is real."

Maggie got excited. "So, Jenny's the killer?"

"I'll say it again, the murder weapon doesn't have her fingerprints, and she has no motive to kill. We can only suspect, not convict."

Maggie felt deflated. She couldn't think of a reason why Jenny would kill Kimberly, and the case was already closed. She had confessed, and without any solid evidence, mere speculation couldn't pin the crime on Jenny.

Even if the case were reopened, the existing evidence was very unfavorable to her.

Today was Kimberly's burial day. If she made any moves now, the Flores family would probably hate her, thinking she was doing it on purpose.

Francis added, "I'll investigate this case further in secret."

Maggie was puzzled. "Why are you helping me?"

Francis said righteously, "If there's another killer, as a cop, it's my duty to find out. This isn't about helping you."

"Thank you," Maggie pressed her lips together. "Thank you for telling me this."

"Maggie, let's go eat," Isabella came down from upstairs at this moment. Seeing a man in front of Maggie, she asked, "Is this your friend?"

At first sight of Francis, Isabella felt a twinge of jealousy. 'Maggie is so lucky. She just got divorced, and now there's this handsome guy hanging around her.'

Maggie hesitated for a moment. "Yes, my friend, Francis."

Francis glanced at Isabella, then stood up and said to Maggie, "You have plans, so I'll leave now. If I make any progress, I'll contact you."

Maggie nodded. "Okay, thank you."

After Francis left, Isabella immediately asked curiously, "Is he really your friend? He's so cold and cool, looks pretty good."

Maggie didn't want to say much to Isabella. She didn't know why, but she just instinctively didn't want to talk.

Maggie just smiled and said, "Let's go eat. My treat. Thanks for helping me with my stuff recently. I also invited Dulce."

"Alright, I won't fight you for the bill then," Isabella said, "My car is parked at the door. Let's go."

Isabella had just gotten a new red Mercedes. Maggie sat in the passenger seat. After Isabella got in, she casually threw her bag in the back seat. The bag wasn't placed securely and fell, causing a handkerchief to drop out.

Maggie instinctively helped to pick it up, and her eyes changed slightly when she saw the handkerchief.
