Chapter 184 You Promised Me to Grow Old d Together

Time was like a sharp knife, constantly cutting into Fiorello bit by bit.
He had no wounds on his body, yet he was engulfed by a pang of grief.
As each minute passed, Fiorello's nerves were stretched taut in anticipation.
Doctors kept rushing blood bags into the operating room, doing everything they could to save Maggie.
Watching this scene, Eleanor was also nervous and worried. Her hands were clenched tightly, and she murmured, "God, please bless Maggie; let nothing happen to her."
Holden was also extremely worried. "Fiorello, everything was fine before; how did Maggie get into an accident?"
The cause of the accident had not been investigated yet, but Fiorello had no time to spare for that now.
The rainy night made the roads slippery, but Fiorello had witnessed Maggie's driving skills and quick reactions in emergencies. It seemed highly unreasonable for such a major accident to occur.
There were hardly any cars going up the mountain at that time, but while he was still at the foot of the mountain, he heard the sound of a car colliding with the mountain, which lasted for a long time.
The car on the driver's side was almost unrecognizable, indicating that Maggie was trying to use the friction between the car and the mountain to slow down.
Why would she resort to such a dangerous method to control the car?
There was only one answer: the brakes had failed.
A chill ran down Fiorello's spine, his expression cold. There seemed to be a frosty halo emanating from him. "Holden, go check whether the brakes failed before the accident. Whether it was intentional or accidental, find out the truth for me."
"Don't worry, I'll go check it right away." Holden knew waiting here wouldn't help; he had to find out what had happened quickly.
Holden hurriedly left, and Eleanor asked, "Fiorello, are you suggesting there's something wrong with Maggie's accident?"
A hint of killing intent flashed in Fiorello's deep eyes. "We'll know once Holden finishes the investigation."
Maggie's surgery lasted nearly eight hours. As dawn approached, she was still in critical condition and was taken to the intensive care unit.
Dressed in sterile clothing, Fiorello entered the ICU, holding Maggie's hand, watching her lying on the bed with an oxygen mask on her face. He couldn't stand any more; a tear fell on the back of Maggie's hand.
Maggie had numerous IV lines inserted into her body, now relying on them to sustain her life.
"Maggie, don't scare me; you must pull through; you promised me we would grow old together." Fiorello's voice was hoarse, filled with sorrow. "You can't leave me alone."
He kissed the back of Maggie's hand, tears flowing incessantly.
A man who could trigger a financial storm easily was now sobbing uncontrollably by Maggie's side, a sight that would likely overturn people's perceptions.
He spoke many words to her, but she showed no response at all.
Maggie’s face was paled. She was covered in injuries. What responded to Fiorello was the beeping sounds from the life support equipment.
The doctor said Maggie was still in critical condition, with a blood clot in her brain that hadn't dissipated, posing a constant danger.
The news of Maggie's accident couldn't be hidden from Arya.
Upon learning about Maggie's accident, Arya rushed to the hospital, only able to watch her daughter through the glass.
Seeing Maggie hooked up to a ventilator, relying entirely on these machines, tore at Arya's heart.
Eleanor comforted her. "Arya, don't worry. Maggie will definitely get better. We've got the best doctors; they will cure Maggie."
Eleanor stayed at the hospital all night, looking visibly worn out.
"My daughter, how could Maggie get into an accident? How could this happen." Arya's eyes darkened and swooned.
Eleanor quickly supported her. "Calm down, Arya, and hold on."
Eleanor helped Arya sit down on a nearby chair.
Maggie was Arya's everything; if something happened to Maggie, it would be like losing Arya's own life.
