Chapter 741 Doubts Arise
Mark went to the shopping district to buy some things to take to Cyberland for Arya and the three kids.
"Can't go empty-handed every time," he thought.
Desmond saw Mark and was startled. He noticed the distance between Mark and Fiorello was only about four or five meters. If Fiorello turned around, Mark would see him.
Desmond became nervous, his hand shaking as he held his phone, unsure of what to do.
He had to stop Mark from seeing Fiorello, or it would be a disaster.
Fiorello was standing in front of a meatball stand, while Mark, carrying gifts from a high-end store, was walking towards him.
Just as Mark was about to pass by Fiorello, a loud noise came from not far away, and Mark instinctively turned to look.
Fiorello also straightened up and glanced in the direction of the sound, while Mark stood right in front of him. If Mark turned back, their eyes would meet.
This scene made Desmond's heart race. He couldn't hold back any longer and ran over, grabbing Fiorello and quickly walking in the opposite direction.
When Mark turned back, he only saw a figure that resembled Fiorello's back, but he didn't think much of it.
Fiorello didn't know what had happened. Desmond pulled him along until they reached the next street corner before letting go.
"You've been following me," Fiorello said coldly, not as a question but as a statement.
Desmond, embarrassed, said, "Ryan, I'm worried about you. What if something happens to you out here alone? You're my only son. I heard there was a stabbing on this street last week. Let's go home; it's not safe outside."
Fiorello had always known Desmond was following him, but since Desmond didn't bother him, he didn't expose him.
He just assumed Desmond was worried, which made him so anxious.
However, Fiorello was internally resentful of this behavior.
Fiorello walked ahead, with Desmond following a step behind, cautiously.
Desmond's nervousness and concern for Fiorello came from a father's perspective, which added some credibility to the stories Melissa had fabricated.
From Desmond's eyes, Fiorello saw only a worried father.
At this moment, someone was handing out flyers on the street and gave one to Fiorello.
It was a flyer for an English and French language training institute, with information in Chinese, English, and French.
Fiorello realized he could understand both English and French. He casually asked, "Dad, where did I go to college?"
Desmond, thinking of Fiorello as his own son, instinctively replied, "You didn't go to any college. You only scored a little over 400 on your SATs. I wanted you to retake it, but you refused and went to work early."
The real Ryan indeed hadn't gone to college, and this was true.
However, this made Fiorello suspicious.
How could someone who scored just over 400 on the SATs understand both English and French?
Fiorello didn't voice his doubts but kept them to himself. He deliberately said, "What was my first job? Dad, tell me more about the past."
Desmond knew Fiorello was trying to recover his memories, so he said, "You were rebellious back then and didn't listen to me. After the SATs, you ran away and didn't keep in touch. You never told me what you were doing or what happened. You grew up and had your own secrets."
This answer was without giving anything away.
It seemed like an answer, but it said nothing.
Fiorello turned to look at Desmond, and even such a casual glance made Desmond feel guilty.
Fiorello checked the time and said, "It's lunchtime. Let's find a place to eat."
"Miss Melissa is still waiting for us at home for lunch, Fiorello. We should go back. The food outside isn't sanitary."
"I suddenly want to eat barbecue. Let's eat out," Fiorello said, turning and entering a barbecue restaurant.
Desmond quickly reported the situation to Melissa.
