Chapter 280 Trapped

Isabella’s voice was shaky, as if she was trying not to be overheard. Maggie could sense her fear even through the phone.

Maggie asked urgently, "What's going on? Where are you, Isabella?"

"I'm at home."

Before Isabella could say more, the line went dead. Maggie knew something was wrong. She quickly told Eleanor, "Auntie, please watch Adalia. I need to go out."

Maggie hurriedly put on her shoes. She had to go see what was happening with Isabella.

"Maggie, you should wait for Fiorello to come back. It's too dangerous for you to go alone, and you don't even know what's happened to Isabella," Eleanor said, having overheard the phone conversation.

"Fiorello is working late today. He can't come. It's fine, Eleanor. I'm heading out now."

Maggie rushed out the door. She didn't dare go to Isabella's house alone, so she called the police and brought two officers with her.

Maggie had only been to Isabella's in-laws' house once before. She knew that Isabella and James had been going through a rough patch and were on the verge of divorce. Isabella's distress call could only mean trouble.

Isabella hadn't been clear on the phone, so Maggie could only guess what was happening.

However, when Maggie arrived at James's house, she was shocked.

Olivia and Frank Adams were there, the Adams family on one side and the Anderson family on the other, the atmosphere tense. Isabella, disheveled and wrapped in a coat, leaned pale and trembling against Olivia.

Olivia held Isabella tightly, her expression a mix of anger and heartbreak. Frank looked dejected.

James opened the door, and seeing Maggie and the police, he smirked and glanced back at Isabella. "You really know how to air our dirty laundry, calling the cops and all. Well, they can be witnesses to your infidelity."

Isabella cheating?

Maggie was stunned as she looked at Isabella on the couch. She had initially thought Isabella was in danger from domestic violence, which was why she brought the police.

She hadn't expected this scene.

"Isabella," Maggie called out, feeling truly caught in a dilemma.

The police then asked, "What's going on here?"

The tense atmosphere made it clear something was wrong, and the police naturally had to investigate.

What happened next was beyond Maggie's expectations. Ava, upon hearing the police's questions, exaggerated the story.

Ava pointed at Isabella and said angrily, "Officers, this woman was caught cheating in her own home. Shameless, isn't she? We caught her in the act in the bedroom. Look, he's still here."

Maggie saw a young man, Brandon, cowering in the corner, wearing only underwear. He was quite handsome, a typical pretty boy.

Olivia, unable to tolerate the accusations against her daughter, retorted, "Isabella would never do such a thing. You're slandering her. It's your son who’s been cheating for years, raising another woman's child. Now you're trying to deflect by blaming my daughter."

Ava, hands on her hips, retorted, "I'm not slandering her. This man is from the gym. Isabella goes there often, and now we know why."

Olivia was furious. "My daughter would never do such a thing. Your son has had a mistress for years, even raising her child. It's laughable that he found out the mistress was cheating on him."

Olivia's words were sharp and cutting.

Both sides held their ground, arguing fiercely.

The police were getting frustrated with the heated argument.

Maggie hadn't expected this situation. She glanced at James, who sat calmly on the couch, showing no signs of anger over his wife's alleged infidelity.

This was very strange.

Suddenly, Isabella, who had been silent, erupted. She got up from Olivia's embrace, grabbed an ashtray from the table, and hurled it at James, her eyes red with rage. "James, you're despicable and shameless. You're not a man."
