Chapter 409 The Fuse
Finding out about her husband's affair from someone else was the worst.
Fiorello's words made Joseph feel ashamed. "I'll explain everything to your mom," he promised.
Years of secrets weighed on him like a heavy stone, almost suffocating him.
Fiorello didn't say more and headed to the elevator, leaving the Eagle Group.
Downstairs, he bumped into Eleanor, who had been following Joseph. Fiorello calmly stopped her. "Mom, what are you doing here?"
"I followed your dad," Eleanor said. "He said he had a golf date with Frank but drove all the way here. Something's up. Did you see him?"
Fiorello didn't answer but asked, "Mom, did you drive here?"
Eleanor looked puzzled. "No, I didn't."
"I had a bit to drink, so I can't drive. Can you?" Fiorello handed her the car keys and walked to the car.
Eleanor took the keys and muttered, "Why are you drinking during the day? And what are you doing here?"
"I had to take care of something," Fiorello said, getting in the car. "Let's head back to the hospital. If Adalia doesn't see me, she'll start complaining."
Eleanor, thinking of Adalia in the hospital, forgot why she had followed Joseph.
As she got in the driver's seat, she asked, "Did you know Adalia is Maggie's daughter? Your grandma found out and caused a scene at the hospital."
Fiorello frowned. "Is Maggie okay?"
"Your grandma is all talk; she wouldn't really do anything to Maggie," Eleanor said, starting the car. "Fiorello, what do you think about all this? It's so confusing."
Fiorello said, "Whether Adalia is Maggie's daughter doesn't change anything. Maggie and I are her guardians."
"You may be okay with it, but it's different. Adalia is Maggie's daughter with someone else. You're raising someone else's child," Eleanor said.
As a mother, Eleanor hoped Fiorello would marry someone with a clean slate, but it was too late now.
Maggie was pregnant with a child from the Flores family, so they wouldn't divorce.
Despite the situation, Eleanor liked Maggie and Adalia. But knowing Adalia was Maggie's biological daughter felt like a thorn in her throat.
Fiorello asked, "Mom, do you like Adalia?"
Eleanor replied, "I like her. She's cute, smart, polite, and very likable. When she calls me grandma, it warms my heart."
Fiorello asked again, "Are you satisfied with Maggie as your daughter-in-law?"
Eleanor thought for a moment. "I'm satisfied, but I'd be more satisfied if it weren't for that issue."
"You like Adalia and are satisfied with Maggie. That's enough," Fiorello said. "Everyone has a past. A few years ago, I had a one night stand with a woman too."
Eleanor was shocked and slammed on the brakes. They both lurched forward and were pulled back by their seatbelts.
"Fiorello, are you serious?" Eleanor asked excitedly.
"Mom, is that so strange? I'm a normal man," Fiorello replied.
"If you were talking about Holden, that would be normal. But not for you," Eleanor said, knowing Fiorello well. "Who was that girl? Why haven't I heard about her? Does Maggie know? Women care about their husbands' past relationships. Maggie is pregnant, so don't upset her."
Just a moment ago, she was barely satisfied with Maggie, and now she was defending her.
Fiorello smiled. "Mom, you're still defending Maggie."
