Chapter 459 An Explanation
In the next few days, Maggie was stuck in the hospital, getting treated. She took her meds and did all the tests the docs told her to, playing the good patient.
Fiorello was torn up and worried sick seeing her like this.
Maggie didn’t throw any fits. After finding out Kimberly was behind the kid’s death, she lost it for a bit but then pulled herself together.
Fiorello could tell Maggie was desperate to get better and get out of there.
He also had a hunch about what Maggie wanted to do once she was out, but he felt helpless. He couldn’t stop her.
After Maggie’s miscarriage, her friends Emily, Ann, and Angela all came to see her at the hospital.
Maggie was down in the dumps and mostly quiet. Even Adalia couldn’t lift her spirits.
Everyone felt awful about the baby.
When Mark heard what happened, he rushed to the hospital to see Maggie. Before he even got to the room, he was already shouting, “Maggie, don’t be too sad. You can have another kid later. Just take care of yourself.”
Arya saw Mark and yanked him out before he could fully step inside.
“Don’t go in and bother Maggie,” Arya said, “She’s in a bad mood. Don’t bring up the baby and make it worse.”
Mark, all concerned, asked, “How’s Maggie doing now? Is she feeling any better? I’m her dad; I need to be here for her. Where’s Fiorello?”
“Are you here to see your daughter or to find Fiorello?” Arya snapped.
“Of course, I’m here for my daughter,” Mark said, catching on. As long as Maggie was okay, the Flores family’s support wouldn’t waver.
Mark added, “It’s okay that the baby’s gone. Just focus on getting better and living well with Fiorello. There’ll be more kids.”
Mark didn’t ask why Maggie had a miscarriage.
Arya, fuming, said, “Mark, how can you say it’s okay?”
Just then, the sound of a cup smashing came from the room. Maggie had heard the argument outside and, feeling pissed, broke the cup on purpose.
She couldn’t keep her emotions in check.
Seeing what was happening, Arya told Mark, “You should leave now. We don’t need you here. Don’t upset Maggie anymore. She doesn’t want to see anyone right now.”
With that, Arya went back into the room and shut the door.
Mark had no choice but to leave.
At the hospital entrance, Mark ran into Fiorello. He immediately put on a sad face and approached him. “Fiorello, I know everything. Don’t be too sad. You’re still young; there’ll be more kids. Take care of yourself.”
“Mm.” Fiorello was stone-faced; he hadn’t slept well these past few days. Drowning in grief, his eyes were bloodshot, his beard scruffy, and his hair a mess, looking nothing like his usual self.
If Mark wasn’t Maggie’s dad, Fiorello wouldn’t even acknowledge him.
Fiorello just nodded and walked towards the elevator. Mark, getting the hint, knew Fiorello’s attitude to him didn’t matter as long as outsiders didn’t know. As long as he could use the Flores family name and Fiorello didn’t oppose it, it was fine.
Fiorello grabbed some food for Maggie. When he walked in with the food, Arya saw him and, knowing her daughter had been giving him the cold shoulder, decided to give them some space. “Maggie, I’m heading home now. Adalia’s still at home. If you need anything, let me know, and I’ll bring it next time.”
Then, Arya said to Fiorello, “Fiorello, take good care of Maggie. I’m leaving now.”
Fiorello replied, “Mm, take care, Mom.”
After Arya left, Fiorello put the food on the table. Maggie watched him, her face blank.
He handed her a fork. “Eat something. Even if you’re mad, you need strength. You won’t have any if you don’t eat.”
Maggie didn’t take the fork. She looked at him and coldly asked, “The baby’s gone, Fiorello. Aren’t you gonna do something about it?”
