Chapter 557 Becoming a Disciple
Olivia had made up her mind and shamelessly took a cab to Sunset Hills.
Sunset Hills.
After several acupuncture treatments, Mark's body was no longer as stiff as before. With Arya's support, he could even take a few steps.
This improvement was particularly surprising and gave everyone hope.
Today was the weekend, and Adalia was also at Sunset Hills. Dylan had prepared a medicinal bath for Mark. After brewing the herbal concoction, he placed Mark into a large tub, which was akin to a steam bath.
Arya noticed steam rising from Mark's head and asked, "Dr. Mason, why is there steam coming out?"
Adalia also found it fascinating, "And it's a pale yellow steam."
Kids watch too much TV.
Dylan explained, "This is the heat penetrating the body, allowing the medicinal properties to enter and expel toxins and moisture from within."
Arya was startled, "Toxins? Dr. Mason, is Mark poisoned?"
Dylan laughed, "Arya, the toxins here don't mean poisoning. Actually, everyone has toxins in their body. Mark's stroke was fundamentally due to stagnant blood and qi, which damaged his brain and central nervous system."
Arya didn't understand a word Dylan said, but Adalia listened very intently.
Adalia admired Dylan greatly, thinking it was amazing to be able to heal people.
Arya chuckled awkwardly, "Dr. Mason, treat him as you see fit. How long until he can walk or talk?"
"After another course of treatment, his speech impairment should improve," Dylan glanced at the sky outside, "It's about to rain; I need to bring the herbs inside."
Dylan never let anyone else handle the herbs. He worried others might not do it right or mix them up.
In matters of medicine, Dylan was very meticulous.
Seeing Dylan go outside, Adalia followed, "Mr. Mason, let me help."
Dylan smiled, "Adalia, I can handle it myself. You should go back inside."
Adalia suddenly said firmly, "Mr. Mason, I want to learn medicine from you and help heal people."
This surprised Dylan, who then smiled, "Learning medicine is very tough."
"I'm not afraid of hardship," Adalia said seriously, "Mr. Mason, please take me as your apprentice and teach me medicine."
Dylan had never taken an apprentice before.
Medical knowledge is vast and learning it is very tedious. Dylan thought Adalia was just curious and new to it, so he only smiled and continued gathering the herbs without agreeing.
"Mr. Mason, I'm serious," Adalia grabbed Dylan's arm with both hands, "I want to learn medicine and become as skilled as you."
"If you start learning medicine, Fiorello will kill me. He's waiting for you to learn business."
As soon as Dylan finished speaking, Fiorello's voice came from behind, "If Adalia likes medicine and you think she has potential, I'd be more than happy."
Fiorello had returned with Maggie. Dylan glanced at the two and said, "I've never taken an apprentice before."
"There's a first time for everything," Maggie also hoped Adalia could learn medicine from Dylan and sincerely said, "Dr. Mason, do you think Adalia has the talent for medicine? She is very persistent in what she chooses and won't give up easily. I hope Mr. Mason can give her a chance."
Seeing the whole family taking turns to persuade him, Dylan hesitated, "Learning medicine depends on talent. It's tedious and tough, and it takes a long time."
Adalia looked up and said, "Learning is endless. My dad taught me that you learn as long as you live. I'm not afraid of hardship."
Fiorello sincerely said, "Dylan, considering Adalia's sincerity, please take her as your apprentice. Whatever requirements you have, just let us know."
Dylan laughed, "Fiorello, you're really putting me in a tough spot. Sincerity alone isn't enough to learn medicine. The most important thing is talent. Without talent, no matter how much you learn, it won't help. Adalia, if you want to be my apprentice, you have to identify all the herbs in this yard within ten days and know their names and their effects. I'll test you then. If you pass, I'll take you as my apprentice. If not, then it's unfortunate."
Adalia smiled confidently, "Mr. Mason, you don't need to wait ten days. You can test me now. I already know all these herbs."
This not only surprised Dylan but also Fiorello and Maggie.
Maggie asked, "Adalia, there are more than twenty kinds of herbs here. Do you really know them all and their effects?"
