Chapter 410 Differential Treatments
Eleanor glared at Fiorello. "That's different. What happened with Maggie was before you got married. Plus, Maggie's pregnant now, and it's tough for her. She needs to stay calm. When I was pregnant with you, I almost miscarried because of your grandmother."
Talking about the past still hurt Eleanor.
"Your grandmother never liked me. She even tried to get your dad to divorce me. I was so stressed I started bleeding and had to be hospitalized for a week. That's why you're here today. Pregnant women can't be stressed."
"Mom, you've been through a lot," Fiorello said, looking at Eleanor. He hadn't really looked at her in a long time. The fine lines around her eyes showed her age.
He never realized how hard and dangerous pregnancy was until Maggie got pregnant. When the doctor said both Maggie and the baby might not make it, he understood how risky childbirth still is.
Fiorello's sudden understanding brought tears to Eleanor's eyes.
Eleanor smiled and patted Fiorello. "It's good you understand. Marriage changes a person. You chose the right wife."
Fiorello used to be cold and distant, making conversations difficult. But now, Eleanor noticed he had changed over the past few months.
Thinking about Gregory worried Fiorello. He didn't know how Eleanor would react when she found out.
"Fiorello, you mentioned you had a fling before. When was that, and what was her name?" Eleanor asked.
"I don't know," Fiorello said. "It was a prank by Benjamin and the others. I was drunk and don't remember her name or what she looked like."
"Fiorello, you're such a jerk," Eleanor exclaimed, hitting him. "You didn't take responsibility. What if something happened to that girl? I never thought you'd have a one-night stand."
Fiorello stayed silent.
Eleanor quickly added, "What if you left a child out there? A man shouldn't father children irresponsibly and leave women pregnant without taking responsibility."
Fiorello looked at Eleanor with a complicated expression. "Mom, you're imagining things."
"Why is that impossible? What if?"
"That's impossible," Fiorello said. "If something had happened, she would have come to find me by now. Since she hasn't, she probably doesn't know who I am or has forgotten about it."
Eleanor scolded, "Young people love excitement. I'm warning you, Fiorello, now that you're married, you have to follow the rules. No gambling, drugs, or anything like that. It's the Flores family rule."
"Yes, Mom, you're right," Fiorello said, changing the subject. "I'll come back to the Flores Mansion for dinner tonight."
Eleanor immediately asked, "Are you bringing Maggie? I'll go home and cook."
"Maggie is at the hospital taking care of Adalia. We'll talk about it after Adalia is discharged," Fiorello said, planning to talk to Kimberly at the Flores Mansion without bringing Maggie.
Eleanor glanced at Fiorello. "I'll ask Cassidy to make a couple of extra dishes tonight."
Fiorello laughed. "Mom, just because Maggie isn't coming, does that mean I can't even have fish?"
Eleanor said, "You're not the one who's pregnant. It would be a waste."
