Chapter 387 The Competitive Spirit

Emily was a firecracker—stubborn, competitive, and generally uninterested in the basic concept of common courtesy. She had a way of twisting the truth that often left those around her spinning.

Even at her young age, her actions suggested she was well on her way to becoming a handful—potentially a rude and willful child if things didn't change soon.

Maggie was worried. "Emily, you can't think like that."

Arya chimed in, "Relax, she's just a kid. She just got back and might need time to adjust. Kids have their own sense of ownership. Just guide her slowly."

Maggie felt helpless with Emily; she was too stubborn.

Taking a deep breath, Maggie told Arya, "Mom, keep an eye on Adalia. Emily, come with me to the room."

She needed to correct Emily's bad habits and teach her properly.

Emily was happy to get Maggie's attention and followed her into the room.

Maggie sat on the bed and said patiently, "Emily, I haven't been there for you all these years, and I feel guilty. Now that you're back, I want to make up for it and teach you well for a better future."

Emily didn't really get it and just stood there.

Maggie gently continued, "If you want a Barbie doll, just ask me or Adalia. Taking things without asking is rude. It's stealing. I want you to learn honesty, kindness, respect for elders, and caring for Adalia. Got it?"

"Paul never taught me this stuff," Emily pouted. "Mom, Adalia has her own room, but I don't. She has so many nice clothes and toys, but I don't. Do you not love me?"

Maggie explained, "You just got here, and we only have so many rooms. We were in a rush and didn't prepare for you. We're moving tomorrow, and you'll get your own room, clothes, and toys. I treat you and Adalia the same. Even if you don't like Adalia, you can't bully her. Try to be friends. Can you promise me that?"

Emily didn't like Adalia but didn't want to make Maggie mad, so she agreed, "Okay."

Seeing Emily nod, Maggie felt relieved.

After talking to Emily, Maggie called Adalia in for a chat. "Adalia, Emily just joined the family. Be considerate, okay? Don't fight. I hope you can be good friends."

Adalia nodded obediently. "Okay."

Maggie thought everything would be fine, but she didn't know Emily was still bullying Adalia.

While Maggie rested and Arya did laundry, Emily called Adalia to the children's room and threatened her to hand over all her toys and clothes, or she'd hit her.

Remembering Maggie's words about being friends, Adalia shared her toys and clothes.

"Emily, I have lots of toys. Let's play together," Adalia said generously.

Emily was envious of the beautiful toys. "Did Mom buy all these for you?"

"Some are from Mom, some from Dad, grandparents, and my godmother," Adalia replied politely. "Emily, you can play with them."

Seeing Adalia, who was prettier than her, made Emily envious. Kids can be very competitive.

Emily pushed the toys aside. "I don't want the ones you've played with. I'll ask Mom to buy me new ones."

Adalia didn't get why Emily was suddenly mad. She had agreed to share.

Emily walked out and told Arya, "Grandma, I want new toys. Buy me new toys."

Maggie was sleeping, so Emily didn't want to disturb her.

Arya finished hanging the clothes. "Okay, I'll take you."

She wiped her hands and called out, "Adalia, put on your shoes. We're going to the supermarket."
