Chapter 47 The Other Woman is Pregnant with the Second Child

Once she had Maggie all to herself, Dulcinea started to ramble.

"Maggie, I had a terrifying nightmare, scared me to death, and that's why I had to find you," she said.

Maggie just looked at her, silent, with a look that said, 'You think I'm buying this?'

However, Dulcinea continued her nonsense, clutching onto Maggie with a dramatic flurry of sobs and sniffles. "Maggie, seriously, I dreamt my boyfriend was cheating on me and he ran off with my money, can you believe that?"

Dulcinea had been dating a handsome young man three years her junior, never giving a second glance to men over twenty-five.

Dulcinea had very specific criteria for a partner: he must be handsome, under twenty-five, over eighteen, charming, and obedient.

"That's really scary," Maggie teased. "How's your handsome young man doing lately? Any signs he's going to take the money and run?"

Maggie actually didn't believe the gossip. She wasn't a naive child. She was willing to listen to Dulcinea's tall tales because she knew Dulcinea meant no harm.

"He's been good," Dulcinea assured her. "By the way, which hospital did you go to for your check-up?"

"The City Hospital."

An hour later.

The two arrived at the hospital, and Maggie had made an appointment using her phone. It was just her turn when they got there.

The doctor handed Maggie a form for blood work and proceeded to check her liver, gallbladder, spleen, and kidneys.

Dulcinea hovered nearby, making Maggie laugh. "You look so worried. Anyone would think we were a couple."

"If I were a man, I'd marry you in a heartbeat and not let Fiorello have a chance," Dulcinea joked.

"Then be a man in your next life, and I'll marry you," Maggie joked back as she went to show the doctor her test results.

"I'm coming too," Dulcinea said, her heart hanging on every word.

Ever since that incident years ago, every time Maggie fell ill, it sent Dulcinea and Arya into a state of high anxiety, fearful of what the hospital tests might reveal.

After glancing at the report, the doctor asked routinely, "Are you married?"

Maggie hesitated but answered, "...Yes, married."

"Any children?" the doctor continued.

At that, Dulcinea tensed up, quickly answering on behalf of her friend, "No, she doesn't have any kids yet."

The doctor looked at Maggie and repeated, "Have you had any children?"

Maggie shook her head. "No."

Dulcinea, fearing the doctor might say something out of turn, quickly diverted the conversation. "Doctor, there's nothing wrong with my friend's check-up, right?"

"Nothing major," the doctor replied. It was a standard query because the check-up included a uterine examination, which suggested that she might have had children at some point.

Seeing Maggie's steadfast denial, and since she was only there for a physical check-up, the doctor didn't pry further.

Maggie didn't overthink it. It was common for doctors to ask married women if they'd had children during a hospital visit. Since she hadn't, she simply answered truthfully.

After signing the paperwork for Maggie's check-up, the doctor said, "All set."

"Thank you, Doctor."

Maggie picked up her paperwork, and Dulcinea breathed a sigh of relief.

As the two walked through the corridor, Dulcinea said, "It's almost noon, Maggie, you owe me lunch. I came here so early to be with you that I even skipped breakfast."

"Sure, whatever you want, it's on me," Maggie responded generously. "Consider it a celebration for my new job at Visionary Futures Group."

"I'm going to take you up on that and have a big meal then..."

"Dulce, that guy over there looks like my cousin's husband," Maggie interrupted Dulcinea, nodding towards a man walking in their direction.

The man was supporting a woman who was boasting, "You saw it yourself, this baby's going to be a boy. When are you going to divorce her and marry me? If you don't give me a status, I'm not going to have this child and let your family line end. Isabella, that old woman, has been married to you for eight years and hasn't had a baby. I already gave your family a daughter, and now I'm pregnant with a son. It's time you let me into your home."

To calm her, the man cooed, "I'll divorce her, I'll do it soon. There's no love left between us, don't get upset. Stressing could harm the baby, and this is the Anderson family bloodline we're talking about—it must be protected..."

He stopped mid-sentence when he looked up and saw Maggie in the hallway, freezing on the spot with a change of color in his face: "Mag—Maggie."

Maggie was equally shocked. Her casual remarks had come unexpectedly true—Isabella's husband, James Anderson, had been having children with another woman, and the woman was now expecting their second child.

He had certainly been skilled at keeping his secrets well hidden.
