Chapter 41 The Coveted CEO of Visionary Futures Group

Maggie arrived in the interview waiting area with her resume and was startled by the sight before her.

The waiting area was filled to capacity, a sea of people, each holding a resume, all there for the interviews. The competition was intense.

After some effort, Maggie finally found a seat. A young lady nearby took the initiative to greet her.

"Are you here for the jewelry designer interview too?"

Maggie smiled and nodded, "Yes!"

The young lady continued, "My name is Emily Roberts. I just returned from studying in France. I absolutely love jewelry design and have won a few dozen awards. And you?"

Hearing about Emily's background, Maggie felt a bit embarrassed and subconsciously covered her resume, "I'm Maggie Miller."

As for her resume, Maggie wasn't eager to discuss it.

Emily was incredibly friendly and asked, "They say they're only hiring three people this time. Do you feel confident?"

Maggie laughed softly, "I was pretty confident before coming here, but seeing all these people, my confidence has taken a hit."

Emily chuckled, "I've spoken to quite a few people. There's an abundance of talent today, standing out won't be easy. By the way, do you have a boyfriend? Are you married?"

When Emily straightforwardly popped the personal question, Maggie was slightly taken aback before responding, "Yes, I'm married."

"That's a relief," Emily sighed, as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. "You're so beautiful that if you were hired, I'd have one more competitor."

Maggie was left speechless.

What kind of logic was that?

They were there to interview for a designer position, not to compete in a beauty pageant.

Seeking clarity, Maggie asked, "Ms. Roberts, just to confirm, we are here for an interview with Visionary Futures Group for a jewelry designer position, right?"

"Yes," Emily corrected, "to be precise, it's for a Designer Assistant position."

Maggie felt reassured, "Then there's no issue."

For a moment, she thought she was in the wrong place.

Curious, Maggie probed further, "Ms. Roberts, with your impressive education and so many awards, isn't it a bit beneath you to be applying for a Designer Assistant role?"

With a background like Emily's, Maggie figured big companies must be eagerly vying for her.

"I'm not just here for the Designer Assistant position. I'm aiming for the CEO of Visionary Futures Group," Emily stated bluntly. "Proximity breeds opportunity. By starting in the design department, someday, I'll make it to the top-floor CEO's office to meet my idol."

Maggie mentioned, "My husband told me that even if you're hired, you'll be working in a subsidiary, not in the main Visionary Futures Group building."

Hearing this, Emily's expression turned thunderstruck, but she quickly recomposed herself, "No problem, as long as I'm within the company, I'll have a chance to meet him."

With thousands of employees at Visionary Futures Group, the likelihood of designer assistants like them meeting the CEO was practically nil.

Maggie decided not to further dampen Emily's spirits. Emily, in turn, asked, "Maggie, how does your husband know so much? Don't tell me he works for Visionary Futures Group?"

Generally, office romances were frowned upon in the industry. Thinking about her husband, Fiorello, and his future, Maggie denied it, "No, he's not."

Maggie had only recently met Emily, so naturally, she didn't feel like she could say too much.

Wary that Emily might be fishing for information, Maggie adopted the classic workplace tactic of staying cautious—after all, the corporate world was a battlefield, and it never hurt to keep one's guard up.

"I'm going to the restroom for a sec," Maggie said, using it as an excuse to step away.

"Sure, I'll save your spot," Emily responded as Maggie made her exit.

Once in the bathroom, nerves about her upcoming interview prompted Maggie to linger longer than intended in the stall. As she prepared to leave, the clip-clop of high heels echoed in the room, followed by a woman's voice. "Why should I be nervous? I’ve already greased the wheels with the interviewers. I'm a shoo-in. Nowadays, who'd say no to money? Once I'm in at Visionary Futures Group, getting the CEO won’t be far behind."

Maggie, still in her stall, was shocked. Could there really be nepotism at an enterprise as prominent as Visionary Futures Group? With only three spots available, it seemed one was already taken—leaving only two.

Maggie couldn't help but marvel at the allure of the CEO of Visionary Futures Group. It appeared women were vying for the title of CEO's wife, not just a designer's role.
