Chapter 156 Labor and Relaxation

Adalia's departure left a hollow void within Maggie, her heart echoing with emptiness. Arya, sensing her distress, sought to comfort her. "Adalia was never truly ours, Maggie. Try not to dwell on it too much. Her father still cares for her deeply.""But what if Susan harms her?" Maggie voiced her fears, her brows furrowed in worry. "Adalia is growing up, and she hasn't even started school yet. It's a problem."Arya, seeing Maggie's maternal instincts, suggested, "Since you love children so much, why don't you and Fiorello consider having one of your own? I'd be more than happy to help care for them. You're not getting any younger, Maggie. It's time to start a family."Arya's words stirred memories within Maggie of the previous night. Fiorello had whispered similar sentiments into her ear, his voice soft and persuasive. Just as the memory surfaced, the study door swung open. Maggie lifted her gaze, her eyes meeting Fiorello's. Her heart pounded against her ribcage, a wave of inexplicable nervousness washing over her. Arya, ever the matchmaker, smiled knowingly. "Fiorello, why don't you take Maggie out for a walk once you're done with work? I need to pay a visit to Maggie's aunt."It was clear that Arya was creating an opportunity for Maggie and Fiorello to be alone. Fiorello offered to drive Arya, but Arya declined, insisting that a cab would be more convenient. She slipped on her shoes and left, leaving Maggie and Fiorello alone in the quiet house."Do you have work this afternoon?" Maggie asked, breaking the silence."No," Fiorello responded, sliding onto the couch beside her and wrapping an arm around her waist. "What about you?"Maggie shook her head, her thoughts still consumed by Adalia's predicament. "Alan didn't agree to us adopting Adalia."Fiorello kissed her cheek, his voice a seductive whisper. "It's okay. We can have a child of our own."The familiar sweetness of his touch returned, and the sense of unease that had been plaguing Maggie vanished. Perhaps she had been overthinking things."It's daytime, Fiorello. Aren't you tired?" Maggie asked shyly.Fiorello kissed her neck and earlobe, a playful grin on his face. "Not at all."Maggie realized he was serious about wanting a child. She quickly pointed out, "The curtains are still open...""Then let's move to the bedroom," Fiorello suggested, lifting her into his arms and carrying her towards their shared sanctuary. The afternoon was spent in the comfort of their home, their focus solely on each other, reminiscent of a couple in the throes of their honeymoon phase. In fact, they were in their own version of a honeymoon phase, desiring to spend every moment together. After making love, they rested briefly before Fiorello initiated another round. Maggie laughed, playfully scolding him, "Fiorello, are you a devil? You have so much energy.""I want you to be completely mine, every inch of your skin bearing my mark," Fiorello declared, his voice filled with desire.Meanwhile, Eleanor arrived unannounced, intending to impart some wisdom on how to manage a husband and care for Fiorello properly. She rang the doorbell, but there was no response."Is no one home?" Eleanor wondered aloud. Having a spare key, she let herself in. As she neared the bedroom, she heard noises from within.

Being a mother herself, she instantly recognized the sounds of intimacy. Despite her vast life experiences, the sounds made her blush with embarrassment."Young people are indeed full of energy," she mused, carefully closing the door behind her as she left. She dialed the housekeeper's number, instructing, "Mary, prepare a pot of nutritious soup and send it to Cityhomes West. Fiorello and Maggie could use some nourishment."Eleanor also purchased prenatal vitamins for Maggie, hoping to expedite the process of becoming a grandmother. Maggie, oblivious to Eleanor's visit, would have been mortified had she known.Later that afternoon, Eleanor arrived with boxes of supplements and nutritious soup, instructing Fiorello to consume them. She tactfully left the items at their doorstep, advising, "You're busy, so I won't disturb you. Just remember to drink the soup, get some nutrition, and remember to balance work and relaxation. Don't overwork yourselves."Maggie and Fiorello were both speechless by Eleanor's actions. After she left, Maggie glared at Fiorello, blaming him for their current predicament. "It's all your fault."Fiorello merely smirked, replying, "We should properly supplement our nutrition."Their weekend was spent either enjoying their domestic bliss or camping in the countryside to watch the sunrise. Maggie noticed Fiorello's constant attempts to conceive, and now, just the sight of him made her weak in the knees.
