Chapter 526 The Eve of the Wedding
Maggie held Adalia's hand and watched at the door for a while. She had only heard about it from Dulce and seen some trending news online, but seeing it in person was still quite shocking.
Isabella's face, neck, and arms were all wrapped in bandages, making it easy to imagine how severe the injuries were.
Olivia cried with heartache. "Isabella, don't be afraid. Mom will find the best doctor for you. Don't be afraid."
"There isn't a doctor who can restore my face." Isabella was completely devastated. "I want James dead; otherwise, I can't shake off my anger."
Olivia agreed, "Yes, that bastard James. The police won't let him get away with this."
Isabella wanted to touch her face but didn't dare. The burning pain from the wounds was very apparent. Even without looking in the mirror, she knew her face was completely ruined.
The more agitated she grew, the more she tugged at her wounds, intensifying her pain. This escalating pain heightened her irritability, which in turn darkened her mood, spiraling into a vicious cycle.
Maggie listened to Isabella's wails but didn't go in. She took Adalia and left. Whatever happened to Isabella in the future had nothing to do with her, and she wouldn't care.
Maybe this really was punishment.
Isabella was yelling and making a scene in the hospital room, her emotions very unstable and a bit manic. She grabbed Olivia and said, "Mom, it's all Maggie's curse. It must be her curse that made me like this. She knew I deliberately delayed time, causing her to miss the best rescue time, and the baby wasn't saved. She hates me. She curses me. Maybe James is even instructed by her."
Isabella shifted the blame onto Maggie again.
Frank came in with some medicine and heard this. He said, "Isabella, when something goes wrong, you only blame others and never look at yourself. I told you before not to push things too far. You and James should have just gotten a divorce and gone your separate ways. But you have to be ruthless. Otherwise, why would James hold a grudge?"
Olivia was displeased, "How can you say that about Isabella? She's already like this, and it's still her fault? Does James have a reason to cheat?"
"That's not what I mean. Don't twist my words," Frank said. "James is paralyzed, and you drove his parents out and took their money. How are they supposed to live? I've told you many times, don't be so ruthless."
Isabella gritted her teeth and said, "I don't regret it. It is the Anderson family who wronged me first."
"You're beyond help," Frank said painfully. He used to think Isabella was just a bit willful and spoiled, incapable of doing anything truly harmful. But now, Isabella had completely changed.
Olivia retorted, "How can you keep saying bad things about Isabella? Do you have any conscience?"
Frank put the medicine on the table and said, "A doting mother raises a spoiled child. Isabella, if you don't wake up, you'll suffer a big loss sooner or later. I hope you learn from this. Hatred can consume a person. You are ruthless to a paralyzed man and have murderous thoughts towards an unborn child. Isabella, how do you become like this? Look at yourself. Do you even resemble a human being anymore?"
After putting down the medicine, Frank left. Seeing Isabella like this, Frank felt guilty and heartbroken. A child's misbehavior is often a reflection of the father's shortcomings in teaching.
Frank's words hit Isabella like a heavy hammer. She sat on the hospital bed, staring blankly, not saying a word.
Olivia was scared, "Isabella, don't scare Mom. Don't listen to your dad. You're not wrong. It's all their fault. It's Mom's fault. Mom shouldn't have agreed to you marrying James. Mom shouldn't have forced you to find a rich man. It's all Mom's fault."
Isabella looked at Olivia and asked, "What is right? What is wrong? Is loving someone wrong? Is cheating and betrayal wrong? Mom, what is right?"
Olivia was stunned by the question.
Isabella was punished, and on the other side, Jenny, who had been tormented by nightmares, was also in a daze all day.
In the span of a moment, there were only three days left until the wedding. Jenny was six months pregnant, and her belly was very big. In these past few months, Gregory hadn't shown up even once.
Kevin was also anxious. The Holmes Group's cash flow had completely dried up, putting them in the same predicament as the Quixote Group once faced.
Fiorello's move to cut off their resources had rendered the Holmes Group a mere shadow of its former self. The Holmes Group's real estate projects had halted, workers' wages had been delayed for two months, and the bank was pressing the Holmes Group to repay loans.
Had Kevin not concealed the Holmes Group's issues, they would have gone bankrupt long ago.
Kevin was now hoping that the marriage alliance between the Holmes family and the Flores family would go smoothly. If it did, the Holmes Group might still have a chance to recover and thrive.
