Chapter 177 Showing Gratitude
Maggie's breath caught, feeling even more nervous, her heart suddenly racing.
She stared intently, afraid of missing every detail.
However, when all the steps were completed, the result showed that she wasn't pregnant.
Maggie, however, didn't give up, still holding onto a glimmer of hope, staring at the pregnancy test, hoping for a miracle.
One minute, two minutes, five minutes passed...
Still, there was no sign of pregnancy.
Disappointed, Maggie tossed the pregnancy test into the trash can, adjusted her mindset, and walked out.
"Maggie, how did it go?" asked Dulce as soon as she saw Maggie. She had been waiting outside for a while.
Maggie shook her head and smiled helplessly. "No."
Dulce was also a little disappointed, then said, "It's okay. You two just got married not long ago. There's no rush; maybe you'll have one next month."
"Yes."
Although Maggie was disappointed, she quickly accepted it. Having a child was also a matter of fate.
"I'll drive you back first; I'm going to visit my mom later."
Dulce said, "You can go straight to your parents. I'll have my boyfriend come pick me up. There's still the second half of the event."
"Alright."
Maggie drove back to her parents' house and opened the door with her keys.
Arya wasn't in the living room; voices could be heard coming from the bedroom.
Maggie walked towards the bedroom and heard Arya on the phone, saying, "All the children from the orphanage that year had been sent away, right? What about the girls? How many girls? Where have they all been sent? Some were adopted, right?"
"Mom, who are you talking to?" Maggie curiously walked in.
Seeing Maggie back, Arya was startled and quickly said to the phone, "I'll call you back another day, okay? Thank you."
Hanging up the phone, Arya asked, " Why didn't you let me know when you came back?"
"I can come back to my parents' house at any time, can’t I?" Maggie smiled. "Mom, I heard you talking about the orphanage and adopting children. What's going on?"
Arya felt guilty and casually made up a reason. "Isabella has no child. Your aunt meant for me to help contact the orphanage to have Isabella adopt one so she'll have someone to take care of her when she's old."
Just a few days ago, Arya went to the orphanage where she abandoned her granddaughter and coincidentally met the former director. She asked for the director’s contact information for future purposes.
After seeing Adalia that day, Arya often dreamed of her lost granddaughter, feeling uneasy, so she wanted to find her granddaughter.
She just wanted to know her granddaughter's whereabouts and whether she was doing well.
"Mom, you worry about these things too much. Isabella is not infertile; it's James who can't have children," Maggie said. "Isabella is definitely going to divorce. She's not that old now, and she'll have her own children."
"Yes, this morning your aunt called to say Isabella is suing James for divorce," Arya said. "The Anderson family won't let go. This marriage won't be easy to dissolve for a while. Poor Isabella. By the way, why are you back so late?"
"I got promoted today. I just had dinner with Dulce. I came to see you and bring you some money." Maggie took out one thousand dollars from her bag. "Mom, when I get my salary next month, I'll have more money. I'll bring you more then."
"I don't need money; take it back." Arya refused. "I have enough; I don't need your money; when I can't move in the future and need the money, you can give it to me; for now, buy yourself some good food and clothes; don't treat yourself badly."
"Mom, just take it. You raised me into an adult. Can't I show my gratitude to you?" Maggie put the money on the table. "Take it and spend it however you want. I feel great that I can now do something for you."
Arya was very pleased. She had worked hard to raise Maggie, and her efforts were not in vain.
At this moment, Maggie's phone rang; it was a call from Fiorello.
Maggie glanced at the caller ID and said to Arya, "Mom, I'm going back now. Take care of yourself."
Arya reminded, "Okay; Don't rush. Get home safe ."
"Got it."
Maggie entered the elevator and then answered Fiorello's call. "Are you off work?"
"Yes, you're not home?" Fiorello's deep voice came through. "You got a promotion and a raise today; I'll take you somewhere to celebrate. Where are you? I'll come pick you up."
"I'm at my mom's place; where are we going?"
