Chapter 234 A Neat and Tidy Family
Adalia's adoption brought Maggie immense excitement. While Fiorello handled the adoption paperwork, Maggie brought a comb to style Adalia's hair.
Watching Adalia sit obediently, Maggie couldn't help but think of her own daughter. Maggie wondered about her daughter’s whereabouts and the quality of her treatment.
She also adopted Adalia to bring good fortune to her own daughter, hoping that she would meet kind-hearted people and receive good treatment. "Adalia, you'll be discharged this afternoon. When we get back, Mom will make lots of delicious food for you and buy you pretty new clothes, okay?"
Maggie held Adalia's shoulders, forcing her to look at her. "Adalia, can you call me Mom?"
Maggie looked expectantly and nervously at Adalia. "Can you?"
Adalia's big eyes gazed at Maggie, and eventually, she called out, "Mom."
This was the first time Adalia called Maggie "Mom." Adalia felt a bit shy but was inwardly delighted.
She liked Maggie being her mother. Maggie's embrace was so warm.
Hearing this, Maggie cried tears of joy, embracing Adalia and planting a few kisses on her forehead. "Dear daughter, I'm Mom. I'm your Mom."
Hearing Adalia call her mom, Maggie missed her unseen biological daughter even more.
Adalia obediently nestled in Maggie's arms. Seeing Maggie cry, she sensibly raised her little hand to wipe her tears. "Mom, why are you crying?"
"Mom is happy." Maggie held Adalia's small hand, her eyes filling with tears.
Seeing Adalia's expression, Maggie became more determined in her heart to find her own daughter.
Just then, a male voice sounded at the door.
"Adalia."
Alan had arrived.
Alan had to take his young son to the hospital because Susan was in jail and no one else was caring for the kids at home. Alan bought some fruits and candy, feeling guilty as he walked in. "Adalia, look at what Daddy bought for you."
Adalia was still happy to see Alan and shouted, "Daddy."
In Adalia's mind, Alan was still her father.
Hearing the word "Daddy" and seeing Adalia's pure smile, Alan felt ashamed.
Maggie didn't say much about Alan's arrival, but Adalia's reaction made it clear that Alan was usually good to her.
Alan placed the fruits and candies on the table and said to Maggie, "Ms. Miller, I'm just here to see Adalia. Once I see she's okay, I'll be relieved."
Alan then told Adalia, "Adalia, I’m not going to be your father from now on. You should listen to Ms. Miller, okay?"
Adalia nodded obediently, and Alan told Maggie, "Ms. Miller, I know you genuinely like Adalia. I hope you'll treat her well in the future. She's smart and will grow up well."
"From now on, Adalia is my daughter, and I will naturally take good care of her and do my best to nurture her." Maggie, looking at Alan, felt sorry for him and said, "If you miss Adalia in the future, you can still come to see her." Living in the same neighborhood, they would often run into each other.
Alan had no intention of moving out; the fortuneteller had indicated a connection between his son's fate and Adalia's, so he couldn't be too far away. In crucial moments, he would rely on Adalia.
"Alright," Alan said, but his young son started crying on his back, so he had to leave with the child.
Fiorello went out for about an hour and completed the adoption procedures, returning with a new identity certificate.
Adalia was renamed Grace Flores.
Seeing the identity certificate, Maggie felt inexplicably relieved. Adalia's fever had subsided, and she no longer needed to stay in the hospital, so Maggie decided to bring her back home for recovery.
Arya also disliked staying in the hospital, so they brought her back home. With two more people at home needing Maggie's care, she couldn't go to work for a while. Thinking about Fiorello working alone to support the family made her feel guilty and sorry.
Fiorello carried Arya's things into the room and said, "Mom, you'll be staying in this room from now on. I bought a new bed, and someone will soon turn the study into a children's room, where Adalia will stay. "
