Chapter 204 The Benefits of Deceased Parents
Ann said sternly, "Mom, don't always use young people as an excuse. Without you around, we young people can take care of ourselves. I'm telling you, you've been too controlling. How I raise my child is my business. If you want to control, control your child."
"Ann, you can't talk to me like that," Ben's mother pretended. "Everyone, come and see. I work hard to take care of the children, and yet I'm being complained about."
With that, her eyes welled up with tears.
Ben's mother's words immediately drew condemnation from the people around Ann.
"Ann, Ben's mother is getting old; it's not easy for her either. You can't say things like that."
"That's right. I often see Ben's mother taking the children for a walk downstairs; she's very attentive to them."
"Having such a good mother-in-law, you should be content."
"You will also be a mother-in-law in the future; think about it from her perspective."
Ann was very angry and on the verge of tears. Maggie quickly grabbed her and said, "Ann, I can't find the way out of the neighborhood. Could you walk me out?"
Maggie had to take Ann away. Otherwise, Ann would only be at a disadvantage.
The conflict of in-law relationships can only deepen the more they argue. Ben's mother often interacts with these neighbors; their relationships are deep, and she certainly hasn't refrained from criticizing Ann in the past.
Everyone has already formed a negative impression of Ann, and arguing won't help.
Ann felt aggrieved. "Mom, when you criticize me in public, it's not just my face that's lost; it's Ben's face, too."
After saying this, Ann took the child to accompany Maggie.
Maggie didn't leave immediately; she comforted Ann at the entrance of the community for a while.
"Ann, you were impulsive just now. Do you want to turn the situation around? If you do, listen to me and do as I say."
"Maggie, what's your idea?"
Maggie smiled and said, "You used to focus on your career and may not be familiar with those neighbors, but your mother-in-law is different. She has good relationships with them. However, not being familiar with those neighbors also has its advantages. In the future, you should take a step back, show extra respect to Ben's mother, and make sure everyone in the community knows about it."
Ann was confused by Maggie's advice. She asked, "Show respect to ben's mother? Ben's mother always finds fault with me. Even if I truly respect her, she won't appreciate it."
Maggie explained, "Whether Ben's mother accepts it or not is her business. You just need to make sure the whole community knows that you respect her." She suggested, "For example, you bought a gift for her, you can ask the courier pull in the neighborhood walk around. When you meet some acquaintances, you tell them that this gift was bought for your mother-in-law, in order to appreciate her kindness in taking care of your baby. Remember, you have to propagate everything you did for her."
Maggie offered so many advices to Ann. She excitedly praised, "Well done, Maggie, you have so many great ideas."
Maggie chuckled, "Your maid can be used wisely; she knows the most about what's going on in your house."
Ann immediately understood. "I know what to do. I'll give the maid a raise when I get back."
"As long as you establish a positive image as a good daughter-in-law, even if Ben's mother badmouths you outside, others can see the situation and respect this good behavior towards the mother-in-law. It shouldn't be hidden, otherwise outsiders won't know." Maggie said, "Respecting Ben's mother should be done naturally, creating situations that others discover unintentionally."
"I understand this." Ann smiled. "Maggie, you really know how to deal with a mother-in-law. There must be no conflict of in-law relationships in your house. Your mother-in-law must under your control."
"Fiorello's parents have passed away," Maggie said, "I don't have that kind of trouble."
Ann envied. "I envy you having such a relaxing family atmosphere."
Maggie remained silent.
