Chapter 225 Welcoming Husband Home
Ashley wouldn't let Mark give a penny to Maggie and Carol; all the money had to go to their son and Melissa.
Mark said, "I have a sense of propriety. Maggie has no feelings for me, and I don't expect her to do anything for this family. The emotional bond between Maggie and me cannot be cultivated. As long as Maggie can save Melissa, I will give Maggie $30,000. That should be enough."
"$30,000 for Maggie is too much. Maggie is your daughter, so you have the right to ask her to donate bone marrow to Melissa," Ashley said sarcastically, "Last time you gave $20,000. If you dare to give money to Maggie and Carol again, you'll have me to answer to."
This was a typical case of wanting Maggie's bone marrow without wanting to pay the price.
"Alright, I won't give it. I'll listen to you," Mark said, a bit fed up with Ashley's nagging, just wanting to end the conversation. There's a lot to do at the winery. I need to call Steven Brown now and arrange some work."
Night fell.
Maggie left the hospital at seven o'clock and stood at the hospital entrance, calling Fiorello.
The call was quickly answered, and Maggie heard some noise on the other end, which soon quieted down.
Maggie asked, "Are you busy?"
"Yes, I'm meeting clients today," Fiorello said. He walked to a quiet place and checked the time. "I'll be home at ten tonight."
Not wanting to go home alone, Maggie asked, "Where are you?"
Fiorello chuckled on the phone and teased. "Darling, is this considered surveillance?"
Maggie laughed. "I miss you. Where are you? I'll take a taxi over and pick you up to go home together."
Having made a decision in her heart, Maggie knew her marriage with Fiorello might not last long. She wanted to cherish every moment now.
"My wife is coming to pick me up in person. I'm honored and surprised," Fiorello's pleasant voice said. "I'll send you the address; let me know when you arrive."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Maggie received Fiorello's address and took a taxi there.
Fiorello's socializing place was next to the Sercial Guild Hall, at the Happy Pub.
In the past, at this club, Fiorello had been made drunk by Benjamin Parker and others, leading him to forget the events of that particular day.
When Maggie arrived at the Happy Pub's entrance and saw the sign, a sense of familiarity washed over her.
It was Maggie's first time here, yet it felt like she had been here before.
Standing at the entrance in a daze, Maggie couldn't recall when she had been there.
Maggie couldn't afford such a high-end place. Maybe she had seen something similar online or on TV, and that's why it seemed familiar.
Without dwelling on it further, Maggie walked in, and the lobby manager immediately came over to greet her warmly.
"Madam, do you have a reservation for a private room, or shall I assist you?" Maggie waved her hand with a smile. "No need; I'll sit in the lobby and wait for someone."
The lobby manager nodded. "Sure, this way, please."
Even if one didn't spend money here, once you entered, you would be treated as an esteemed guest without any discrimination.
That's what service was all about.
Maggie sat in the lobby lounge, and the lobby manager promptly brought over a cup of hot coffee.
Maggie quickly said, "Thank you, that's very kind."
"Please enjoy."
Maggie asked, "How much is it? I'll pay you."
"This is complimentary, free of charge. Please enjoy."
Maggie couldn't help but feel moved. The service at upscale places was truly different, making guests feel truly at home.
Maggie sent a message to Fiorello.
Maggie: [I've arrived. Take your time with work; there is no rush. I'll wait for you.]
In the VIP room, Fiorello saw the message, and a smile unconsciously appeared on his lips as he replied.
Fiorello: [Okay.]
Then he said to Mr. Robinson in front of him, "My wife has arrived, Mr. Robinson. We might need to speed things up a bit."
Mr. Robinson smiled. "It's rumored that Mr. Flores is devoted and very fond of his wife. Recently, he stayed by her side at the hospital, which is truly admirable. I've only heard of Mrs. Fiores but never met her. I'm quite curious. Won't Mr. Flores introduce us sometime?"
Fiorello raised his glass. "Let's do it another day. I'll invite Mr. Robinson to our home."
Maggie had been in a bad mood these days, and Fiorello didn't want to pressure her with these business social events.
"Alright, Mr. Flores must cherish his wife a lot. It seems she must be a great beauty," Mr. Robinson joked, "Come, let's have a drink."
